Headlight failed probably associated with Axxera radio/camera unit
While driving in the dark one morning with headlights on, not towing and radio turned off, the headlights would flicker off and back on (apparently something loose) at the same time the rear camera would come on and the high beam indicator would illuminate on dash, but no high beams. Turning headlights off and on or using high beam lever had no effect. Eventually the headlights failed completely (high or low beam). Soon it was day and headlights were no longer necessary. The daytime running lights were working. Continuing on our trip, with the headlights turned off, (daytime running lights on automatically) the rear camera and high beam indicator light would come on intermittently. Parking/marker lights were unaffected.
No fuses burned out and no obvious wire damage seen. I pulled the radio unit and attached dash cabinet out a few inches to inspect those wires associated with the Axxera unit and the problem was solved. All connection seemed tight and no visible damage. I tried jiggling various wires to re-create the problem with no effect with vehicle engine both off and running.
I could just re install the unit and snug wires that dangle behind the Axxera unit and see how it goes. But, I ask here to see if anyone has had the similar experience and determined what was the cause and solution.
Thank you.
