Disconnect switch

I own a Vegas 25.2 which has the battery USE/STORE disconnect switch right by the entry stairs. My Golden Retriever regularly bumps it going in/ out of the motorhome. Has anyone got a good idea of how to stop that? A box or a cover that would fit? Is it safe to drill into the wall there or should I plan to glue something in place?

Welcome to the site.

There usually is about 1/2" to 3/4" of "space" between the outer wall and the wall inside the cabinet. Just keep in mind that the paneling you'll be screwing into is about 1/8" thick.

I'd glue and screw the cover on.

Here's a crazy idea: how about using some stick-on weatherstrip in a box shape around that switch? That might give enough protection to the switch. It might not work, but it is cheap and involves no drilling. Keep in mind, if you remove the weather strip, it will probably take the finish with it. Worth a try?

Or how about just disconnect it entirely or remove it and cover the space with a blanking plate. I NEVER use mine and haven’t in years. It doesn’t disconnect everything so there remains a drain on the battery even in the store position. Instead I use a hard disconnect switch that totally disconnects the batteries. Inexpensive and easy to install. There are several styles available on amazon or in any auto parts store.

The switch is return to center. The best lock-out I've seen is drill a hole sideways through the part of the push toggle that disconnects it and use a clip pin through that hole so that the disconnect toggle can't be pushed.

I once thought about putting a simple U shaped drawer handle over the awning switch....oriented up and down.
Fortunately my main disconnect switch is tucked away fairly well.
