Electronic Management System (Surge Protector)

Hi all,
Excuse me if this has been covered before on the forum. We are looking at the Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X versus the Surge Guard 34930. Both within $20 of each other. Has anyone been in the marker for a EMS lately? Would be interested in some feedback...
Thanks!

I like the PI units because they have replaceable parts. Also, they have excellent customer service.

Ems

I was really torn but yes I've heard good things about the PI model. I really like how the cover completely closes to make the system water resistant.

The PI is not water resistant. They are not capable of resisting more that a light spring time shower. I have had two go bad due to water intrusion during heavy rain storms. On the first one, PI replaced it. Waiting on an answer for the second one.

Good to know...I thought the plastic lid would prevent most/all the rain? But apparently not...

Had a hardwired 50a PI, worked excellent. Now have a portable 50a unit and it has been in many hard rains with no problem...never had a Surgeguard so can't comment on it.

X2. The hardwired unit is easy to install. That is the one I had experience with.

I have the PI EMS-PT50C. That is the older model before they put the hinged cover on it. I have always covered it in the event of rain. I bought the portable one because I use it on a couple portable generators I have. I also use it for a fifth wheel RV I use. I also like to test the power pedestal before I back into camp site.
There are advantages to the hard wired version. It is secure, out of the weather and it can be installed to monitor shore power and on board generator power. The Progressive Industries product has many good features.
