Extended Tire Warranty

If you have purchased an extended warranty for your tires, please tell me about your experience. If you used it, were you satisfied with the service you received? Good Sam & Coach-net seem to be the main players but I see more out there.

Please note that I am not asking for pros or cons on buying it.

After an experience with the high cost tires on a Mustang GT a few years ago. I always purchase Road Hazard protection on tires. Never had to use it on the coach but I have on three separate autos.
.
Key points, the Road Hazard will be on a pro rated basis so if you have a covered hazard three years in you will basically get 2/5 of the cost of a new tire.

Make sure you verify how the life of a tire is determined. Since RVs generally go through tires based on age rather than wear make sure you know how they determine the age and what the age limitation is (5 or 7 years etc...). The tire age is not the same as the contract length.

Some services will not cover tires once the DOT code reaches a certain point. For instance gif the tires are already 3 years old you may not get coverage. In some cases the tires installed on new motorhomes are one year old when the coach is completed and delivered to the dealer.

Had a front tire blow out, my auto insurance did roadside assistance and sent out tow truck to put on spare. Went to our local shop who called in claim, tire was replaced and sent all documents to warranty company, had a reimbursement check with in 1 week. The only issue I had was Michelin does not make that tire any longer so I ended up paying for another tire out of my pocket as I wanted matching front tires

I’m not confident that it’s a worthwhile coverage but my wife pretty much insisted we get it on our current coach (happy wife....). It cost $1,000 and tires run about $500 apiece so I’d need to have two failures on new tires to make it make sense. Still, IF I have a blowout I’ll probably be glad it’s there. I sort of roll it all up in the cost of the machine in my mind. Sort of like sales tax...it is what it is.

My MH is insured thru Progressive so they sent out someone to put my spare on

I purchased and extended warranty and tire protection policy thru my dealer when i purchased my previously owned MH, it is thru Guardian. I know there is a big debate out there on whether or not to purchase but peace of mind with my DW was worth the price. Due to the traveling we do and previous heath issues we felt this was the right thing to do for us. On my previous MH while we were on road had a major issue with our leveling jacks found a mobile repair that worked with our warranty company they came out trouble shot it, ordered parts, and had repair done while we were staying at the campground, it cost me 100.00 deductible on a 1400.00 repair. When we purchased this MH we did receive a refund from the cancelling the old policy and it was applied to the new policy.

Read the fine print. Some plans do not cover "unexplained blowouts" and require some proof of the reason for the flat such as pothole, nail etc...

The plan I currently have is one I have used before but I noticed that they changed and added the blowout exclusion. I am going to cancel this plan next week and find one that is better. I may call Coach Net and talk to them about their plan.

Which company?

Dave, that's exactly the info I'm looking for. Which company added the blow-out exclusion?

I have road hazard on my Ram 3500 DRW ($1200) for 6 tires and have it with the Mazda. The big reason is it also includes rotate and balance also. I guess it all depends on the cost of the tires and the cost of the warranty.

I bet if your alignment wears a tire where it needs to be replaced, I would think that they do not cover that. Insurance companies take in more money then they pay out.

I think the GOod Sams warranty does that without the tire protection added???

I had it on my 2016 freedom elite. Blew out 2 rear tires in Florida. They eventually paid part of the tires. Had another blowout and just paid it myself.
It just wasn't worth messing around with the warranty.
I would never buy it again.
