Finally went to CAT scales

Well finally went across the scales, 2019 Thor Challenger 37fh we're fulltime so fully loaded,100gals water full propane full gas, full fridge, everything the way we've been traveling . 24,102lbs. 102lbs over I'll take it, have to travel with 2 cases of beer instead of 6.

In total that’s not much overweight. However, I’d also be concerned about individual axle loads. The front or back axle could be much more overloaded than the 102 pounds.

If you don't need the 100 gals of water dropping 25 gallons will put you under by approx 100 pounds.

Still, in a Challenger 102 pounds over isn't bad. I know we always considered the trip when we had our 2015 37ND. The Challenger OCCC is, IMHO, low for a full size Class A.

In our current coach, with an OCCC of 4,800 lbs, we are fully loaded and are 2000 pounds under GVWR.

A gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds. Dropping from 100 gallons to 20 gallons saves you 667 pounds. A case of 12oz beer cans is 20 pounds. Dump the water and keep the beer.

Lol. We only weighed our last rig once and we were about 5 lbs over. Told DW we needed to go use the restroom and we’d be fine! Haven’t weighed the newer coach yet but it has more than 1000lbs OCCC than the last and I’m hoping we’re good. Meant to weigh this summer but never got around to it.

I only carry about 1/3 tank of water when out on the road to save weight plus I usually stop over night at a campground that has city water. The onboard water is for the toilet while travelling. The less water the better the
fuel economy(hopefully).

I finally made it across scales with my Freedom Traveller A27. Sticker says 16000 lb GCWR. 23000 GCWR. With 80 gallons of fuel, 30 gallons of water, and 88 lbs of propane. Plus our gear and just me. Empty fridge. Just me in it, no spouse. Came in at 15,980 lbs. should I be concerned? Will I have to cross DOT scales when traveling across country?

N9 problem: just be sure to call home often, and tell her about the great times you're having!

There are a few states that say "All vehicles over 10,000 pounds" must weight they generally do not enforce weights for RV's unless an enforcement agent is having a bad day. Most states the weight stations are for commercial vehicles only.

When you call the spouse to tell about the good time they are having ask them is there is anything in particular they would like for you to see and provide a report back. Then, and this is most important, secure the bank accounts otherwise you will be sitting on the side of the road under weight with no fuel, food or LP.

I have gone cross country several times and have never had an issue about bypassing the scales. I have never had to enter a scale.

If that’s the case, I reckon I’ll drag her with me. 3 miniature schnauzers as well. I’d forget to call home anyway .

Tell her she can come along... but no clothes or hair and face fixings.
It'll lighten the load by 1400 lbs or so.

Paul

I have never stopped at a weigh station although I saw one that said all vehicles over 8,000 lbs must weigh and the station was open. I drove by and nobody chased me. I was prepared to plead ignorance with the belief that only commercial vehicles needed to weigh. Didn’t think they’d shoot me, in any event.
