I second the "CCW" app. I use it whenever traveling and it gives good up-to-date info so you can make whatever adjustments necessary based on the state you're in. Back that up with a pistol safe in the RV when the state is not reciprocal to whatever permits you have, and you're good to go.

MoMike,

It is an AC/DC GunVault Safe, accessible but hidden and securely mounted. I can not speak for others but with Certification, CE, training and range time the Vault helps provide peace of mind for myself and my wife while traveling.

I trust this information will not spark outrage or panic.

Doc

DocMike, The only thing I should warn you about is Canada. Do not carry a firearm (in a gun safe or not) into Canada. If they catch it, they will incarnate you. No questions asked. So if your plans include Canada, be careful.

Yep, there are some places you have to "run bare" and hope Law Enforcement is around when needed and trust that the Bad Guys follow the rules too.

Question, does this include rifles and shotguns, or just pistols (Canada)

Rifles and shotguns used for hunting are permitted... Must be declared at border.

GMC,

Thanks for sharing the information: knowledge trumps hearsay and "urban myths".

CCW information

Don't forget that some states have restrictions on ammunition you may possess. For example New Jersey prohibits limited penetration projectiles (hollow points) in any firearm unless you are hunting. But then, they don't recognize any other states CCW permit. A woman was fined $1000 per round in her 5 shot revolver there. You are required to abide by all laws of the state you are carrying in. Ignorance of their statutes is no excuse!

Excellent point ..
I just went to the gun store yesterday and bought a box of Ruger ARX rounds for my 9mm so that I would be New Jersey compliant when we travel through there next week.

Your best bet is to always keep abreast of the latest firearms regulations for the States where you're going...
Personally speaking: I'm comfortable traveling with a shotgun. (With the 3-shot plug intact!)
But if I had my druthers: I'd have "ole slab-sides" with me...
As far as traveling to Canada: leave your firearms at home... it's not going to be worth the heartache!

OR.... you can find a storage place near the border (for example on the west coast there'a a little place in Blaine WA that will rent a 4x8 space for a month for $35) and drop off your firearms before exiting the US.. and pick them up on the way back

I'd just as soon leave them where I KNOW that they''re safe...
A rented space next to the Border just screams, "Cut the lock, and empty me out!"

But I sell insurance: I'm naturally suspicious!

There are states such as Ohio where there is a "duty to inform," For Ohio if you are carrying a concealed weapon legaly and stopped by an officer the first words out of your mouth should be "Officer I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and have on on my person." So me states do not require this, my state of Illinois only requires notification if asked. I personally have permits from Illinois, Utah and Florida and so can legally carry in 38 states. I see no reason to travel to any of the other 12. Jim.
basically, if you're an NRA member or believe in the First Amendment, just drive around the states that don't, and it will make you feel better. Unfortunately, you'll miss a lot of good country on the Left Coast, The Land of the Liberal East Coast. But you'll feel good in the rest of the country and WELCOME>

Me too. There is a reason it's a CC permit.

Sound advise is for everyone that does carry to consider having insurance for this as well.

Did you mean to refer to the Second Amendment?
We should belive in ALL of the Amendments: they protect our rights as citizens.
