The V-0

There have been lots of discussions in the forum on gas vs. diesel, V-6 or 8 or 10. Here is a new V-0. All electric, all solar panels and batteries. Won’t work too well in Alaska in the winter.

This Solar-Powered RV Runs Without Fuel Or Charging Stations

I wonder how a bird-strike would affect it?

Here are a couple of videos on the manufacturer’s web site that show the inside. It’s in German and you have to wait 30 seconds or so into the top video before the video of the e.Home starts.

There are a lot more specs on the Victron page about it:
https://www.victronenergy.com/blog/2...ctron-onboard/
Wow a lot more information there...

Important details: 3 x 76Ah of batteries at 400v (so thats like 91kWh of batteries--note the latest Tesla Model S has 100kWh of batteries).
Says range of just shy of 100 miles...so how long will you be sitting before going another 100 miles (I'm guessing around 30-40 hours given the 3kW solar--ooh that is 30-40 hours in sunlight..so longer in real time).

Hope it has a plug

For a small motorhome I like the layout a lot. In particular the rear lounge area. I'd like to see US manufacturers incorporate similar lounge/bedroom in smaller rigs like Axis 24.1.

I know many want permanent beds, but at least manufacturers could offer it as an option. And with garage as this unit seems to have.

I almost think that I'd like to see some sort of generator, to help keep those batteries humming along.

That’s not what their website says. They say 100 miles without the solar (just on the battery fully charged) but that it will run indefinitely on solar power (at least when the sun is up). They intimate that you can run all day and then have power to run your systems at night. Don’t know how 3000 watts of solar power does that or whether it is a pipe dream. But that’s what they would like you to believe. I don’t see and sign of a plug in for shore power, but I would be suprised if it did not have one. Cool concept - if it is true. If not, they would have to have a backup generator.

The funny thing is that it is German - where the sun doesn’t shine for days. I don’t know how this can work - but they must think it will. This could not have been cheap to design and build and the Germans are pretty good engineers.

If it could be plugged in, for backup, when and if necessary, and if it has a gasoline or diesel powered generator for running in overcast weather or at night, it could be practical.

It'll be interesting to see if it makes a dent in the marketplace.
I'll keep an open mind...

LOL! Not buying that at all. Simply consider this:
The motor to drive the thing around is 80kW and solar can only produce 3kW...hmm sure if you're only going 1mph you can drive all day on solar!

Sure granted the motor isn't using 80kW all the time, still I'd bet it takes more than 3kW to keep the unit at speed (and its German..they don't go slow on those highways).

I agree: they won't lie to us... but they're also not telling us the entire story!

Not to mention that 3-kW of solar won't even run an RV A/C all day, something that may not be needed in Germany but certainly would be here in summer.

This project was a marketing exercise to draw attention -- nothing more.

Maybe we're missing the possibility of a cold fusion generator or dilihium crystals.
Seriously, very cool concept! But the price tag just went up with the 30% solar panel tariff.

How about a good old-fashioned Flux Capacitor?

He'll probably just "put the pedal" to his levelers, and raise himself up above you!

They did a great job hiding the giant spool with extension cord for when the sun goes down on you in the middle of nowhere.

Wow...NO! That's like saying "you only get 10 gallons of gas to burn today". Now you have to stop for the night and hope we give you a full 10 gallons tomorrow so you can continue your trip! "I don't think so, Tim!"
