Smile New Jeep "toad" - need help!

We just bought a new toad - a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. Please advise on baseplate, towbar, connections, brakes or no? Where did you buy it - local or online? Did you install it yourself or ??

We are open to any and all suggestions. Currently we tow a 1999 Chevy Tracker with a REMCO driveline disconnect which has worked well for the past 14 years (previous Itasca, now Freedom Elite).

Anyway, looking forward to all the opinions and advice .

I just had our 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk outfitted.

We went with

Roadmast baseplate with wiring for taillights
Roadmast Sterling AT tow bar
Roadmast Invisibrake

I had my installation done during the Camping World 59.00 Install anything special.

I went with the crossbar style base plate so I can add the Roadmaster Guardian for TOAD protection and also so I could run the tow bar supplied safety cables through the tow bar channels.

With the weight of the Wrangler a braking system is required in most states.

We have a 2013 Rubicon. We use the Mopar towing harness, as it uses the existing rear lights for braking, turns and tail lights. Use a Currie bash plate with built-in tow connections, and a basic a frame tow bar. Also a brake buddy for stopping.

We tow a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk and have basically the same set up as dstankov. All Roadmaster components. (baseplate & wiring harness & Invisibrake) However our towbar is the Falcon All Terrain.

we have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler 2-door as our Toad.

I went with Blue OX Base Plate, Tow Bar and Light Kit from Hitchsource (online). Their technical support is awesome & the guy helped me through everything.

Installed it with help from my brother-in-law.

I highly recommend using a brake system (I chose the Patriot II system).

Many states require supplemental braking system.

-Edit-
p.s. - I also added a Protect-A-Tow to keep the rocks from flying up. Over 10,000 miles and no issues with any of it.

I like this baseplate because it will accept 1.25” square tubing that I run tow hooks on when not towing.

I just installed a Currie Base plate on my Jeep TJ. I was able to use my Road master Falcon 5250 Tow bar. I also went with a Ready Brake. The Currie baseplate is an easy bolt on for the Jeep. I have a Blue Ox Apollo brake system that I havent used in 10 years. The Ready brake is much simpler

Do a search. You'll find lots of threads on this subject

For my 2016 wrangler:

Roadmaster base plate
Hopkins lights assembly
Ready Brute Elite tow bar/ brake system. Imo best system

I suggest watching some youtube videos of ready brute elite. You'll be impressed

I purchased everything on Amazon and the install myself

If you can turn a wrench you can do this. Fairly simple job

Halfprice, I was going to go ahead and order your recomendations, then NSA threw me a curve and they are apparently migrating to a READYBRUTE ELITE II towbar. They say it is STEEL and ALUMINUM with STEEL CLEVIS..

Just when you think you have your decisions all made

I had a 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK 4-door that couldn't be towed 4 down...
it was ordered from the factory as a two-wheel drive model, maybe the only year they offered that option.

I later had a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4-door that also couldn't be towed 4 down...
it was purchased without the knowledge that without Jeep's ActiveDriveII, with a 'neutral' button, it was not towable all wheels on the ground.

of course, either of those you could tow with a tow dolly, and the later Jeep was, for a short while, until I realized I wanted a vehicle that was much easier to tow behind my motorhome, and with no dolly to deal with when arriving at campgrounds and rv parks....

a few months later I had my new toad... a nice 2014 Ford Fiesta fwd 4-door with a BlueOx Alpha bar... really nice and easy for my 2014 Thor Palazzo diesel pusher...

I've been a Jeep fan for a lot of years, but having a nice simple easy 40-50mpg 4-door sedan/hatch doesn't hurt at all : )

TurnerFam, we just bought a 2016 Ford Fiesta and will be researching all the options of what to buy so we can tow it behind our A.C.E. You really like what you have? I have a Subaru and thought we could tow 4 down, was so disappointed to find out we couldn't. Decided on the Fiesta b/c it was cheap, can be towed 4 down and it doesn't weigh much.

i'll chime in. i just outfitted by 2013 jeep grand cherokee with a blue ox setup. but i went with some ABN wireless towing lights; they worked out great. I did, however, used some additional securing as i didnt trust using only the magnetic base.

i installed the baseplate(s) myself. probably a 3 hour job.
