hurrican IAN and fort myers area

This morning i was watching the news and was aghast at the OH WELL attitude of an RVer
he and his wife left /abandoned their nice looking bus to leave from the storm
they were in a nice rv resort, but instead of taking their rv with them like most of the folks at this park. they left what probably was a very nice class A

of course coming back it was missing front window, awning and many side windows and looked like water had made its way up to the door or higher

of course its ruined

i sure hope his insurance gives him a long long long hard time about paying the claim.

why would leave your rv, when it can e driven off

is personal responsibility completely gone?

Yes, as evidenced by the people whining "Why didn't you order mandatory evacuations sooner?"

Seriously? The hurricane tracked exactly where they originally predicted before it was even a tropical storm. It also was at the predicted major storm strength. Yeah, the prediction wavered to the west and then back again but you should have been ready to evacuate from at least the 23rd.

Even after becoming an adult, some folks need hand-holding to survive even the smallest of life's challenges.

Maybe they just wanted a new RV or just to write it off . There is also the possibility , they played the odds & thought it wouldn't hit the area , after all , it did change direction & missed us with the full force , we were lucky here .

There are two things this country has lost in the last 20 - 30 years.....

- Personal Responsibility

- Common Sense

There was a time when the 80 / 20 rule applied and 80% of us had them and 20% didn't.

Now there are so few of us left that have both and with a government who discounts the need for people to have both, I'm afraid the rule has flipped to 20% of us have them and 80% don't.

We’ll perhaps it didn’t run. LOTS of people rarely/never move their RVs. It’s just where they live. One of the dealers I’ve spoken with said that a high percentage of “older” (I.e. cheap) RVs are sold as primary, stationary residences to lower income people.

Being in central Florida, we understand dangers each area poses. We were heading to NC for annual event and took extra day to put stuff away and protect as much as possible. If storm track looked worse for our area would have brought racecar and SUV. As it is, we always take anything of real value with us.

We seem to have guessed ok. Pics show a mess but no overwhelming disaster for us. Going to be a long clean up and we get a lot more sunlight through trees now.

Will likely not have power anytime soon but we are preparred for that from previous experience.

I wish everyone a safe recovery. Some people never plan or consider a plan A or B. We always do consider alternatives as too many variables involved.

We head home tomorrow with RV ready with full fresh and empty waste for independent living till power restored.

To each, their own. We like to choose and control as much as possible than just roll down a hill.
