Fresh Water Hose,,,
Looking to buy and I see several brands on Amazon as well as different lengths.
Camco any good?
What about those collapsing hoses? Good/bad? They do take less space, but do they hold up?
Thanks
JJ

Water Hose
I have tried the collapsible ones and do not recommend and if you go that route make sure that its NSF approved. I have two 25 footers and have only used the second one 4 times in 10 years of camping but when you need one you need one same as a shore power cord extension. The standard white hoses hold up very well but if you are in colder climates would bring them inside for the winter

2x the white hose or the newer blue but opt for 2x 15'.(Check Amazon) I'm ususally close enough to the pedestal for just one. I keep the smaller blue filter attached and close it with the other end after I drain the hose from the fill. It keeps dust and critters out. I've learned not to use the city water connection but fill my fresh water tank. Drinking water is bottled. But different strokes...

New blue hose is about as flexible as a 2x4 in cold weather

I've got Camco hoses, and they work well...
... provided that you keep them clean and sanitized!

I think any water hose that is certified safe for potable water will work. I usually carry 3, one 5’ one 25’ and one 50’. I’ve only needed 50’ hose a few times in past 10+ years

Have tried the collapsing hoses twice. Followed all directions: don't leave in sun; drain after use; don't keep hooked up with pressure; etc. Still had multiple leaks after 1 or 2 uses. And, because of all the "Do Nots", would not work for an RV water line.

I've looked at those hoses several times over the years, and stayed away from them for the same reasons that you have posted...

I have been using the Zero G hoses for a while. I like them. They make one (blue) that is specifically made for RV. Both the Blue and Gray are drinking safe but the Blue is, as stated, for RV use. They are more flexible than the white potable water hoses and store in a smaller container because of it. They are also slightly lighter. I initially bought a 50’ and quickly realized that a 25’ would have done the job without having all that extra hose laying on the ground.
Do not use the hose that collapses on itself when pressure is removed. It is not safe for potable water. However, I do use one for flushing black tank.

Over the years I have seen numerous campers get out their potable hose and throw it on the ground. Have seen many more use standard garden hoses as well. No matter what hose you use it should be sanitized by spraying the couplings and the hose bibs with your favorite product and the couplings should never be allowed to touch the ground. NSF as mentioned is a must and the Camco white have worked well for over 30 years since they came out.

I have a camco heated hose that does very well. I also Cary a collapsible hose for everyday uses on the outside of the rv that works well for things like washing the car. I put a wye connector right where the water hood to the rv and have a quick connect for the collapsing hose

I can see where they'd be pretty handy to use in that manner...
Being as compact as they are: that's a very useful trait!

50ft zero G gray, I leave it curled up in one of those baskets from camping world. 8months now under full pressure no problems, I put basket under water hook up compartment with excess hose curled up,we're fulltime so it's always pressurized.

The gray, while safe for potable water is not the one they recommend for RV use.

Camco from Wally World. Got two of them 20 years ago and been using them ever since. One is 10 foot and one 25. Besides replacing the male end on one of them, no problems.

Zero G RV from Amazon or WalMart. Very flexible and light weight.

I keep hearing about the Zero G hoses... perhaps I'll give one a try, for clean-up duties.
I like the idea of it's compact storage capabilities.

I keep hoping to run across a 3/8 inch polyurethane braided hose that's potable rated and in the 25ft ballpark.
I have a few 1/4 inch air hoses like that and I love them. They are very flexible and coil up very nice and easy....pack down small, light weight, ....
I figure the 1/4 inch size is maybe a bit on the small side even if I could find a potable rated one....but I think 3/8 inch would probably give me plenty of flow capacity.
Since I haven't found one I keep thinking that some day I might try to find some nice compression fit ends and make up my own...
For now, I'm just driving around with a couple of the white ones....camco I guess....

Why just for clean up? They are rated for potable. Very flexible, light weight and easy store.
