Extended warranty

Do I need to buy one, and if so why?

I don't know if you need to buy one or not.
Given the track record of the new RVs now days, if it was me, I wouldn't leave the dealers lot without it.
Maybe you can answer your own question by checking with CR to see how long the back log is on warranty/repair work at their facility. I heard they were 60 days out.

well, how long do you plan on keeping the rig and how hAndy are you at doing some of your own repairs when warranty runs out? Some say buy it, others say bank the Money in savings account and use to pay for a repair when you need to. ultimately it is up to you. it is a gamble either way.

As Lloyd said call the CR/RW repair facility and ask them how long the wait is if you needed to get your RW in for repairs. It has been reported it is at 60 days which should tell you a lot. Go read some of the increasing reports of issues on the RW forum. Most will probably be locked because they don't like negative post about Redwoods over there. I say look at purchasing an extended warranty but negotiate on the price.

Great info

Thanks for all the responses. We have decided to go forgo the extended warranty for now. Four months before our Redwood warranty expires we will look at the extended warranty again as I am not really very handy.

We are purchasing a 2013 Tuscanny XTE . I thought about buying extended warranty until they told me the price of over $5000.00 . Then I figured that for that price we can make a lot of repairs .

Ken, I think if you want an extended warranty, you should shop around a little. That, by a long ways is the highest price I've heard quoted.

I'm taking it you got the $5000 quote from your dealer. Whose plan was it they were selling?
Have you checked into Good Sam?
Also I believe "Xtra Ride" has a extended warranty plan.
