Axis-Vegas cargo capacity

Anyone weigh their rig empty? I can't find much info on empty weight or cargo capacity. Last year on west coast trip with a lot of stuff for grand kids onboard, I was within about 40lbs of GVWR of 12,500 lbs IIRC. Was looking for weight ticket, but think it is in RV at lot.
The only published figures I could find were 1,400 lbs cargo capacity for the 25.2 from FMC review at the link below. Heck, my wife's clothes weigh almost that much.

I never weighed ours completely empty. When we did weigh it we had all 3 of us in it, full fuel, full propane, empty water, empty waste, all our camping stuff and no clothes.

At that time our 24.1 weighed in at 11,400 lbs.. over 1,000 lbs less than GVWR.

Your coach should have a yellow sticker on the inside of the screen door which will give you the cargo carrying, to include people, capacity. If you subtract that from the GVWR it should put you in the ballpark of the empty weight.

Thanks, I had not noticed the empty weight rating on the sticker. I will take a look next time I am over there.

Jamie, I am going to show my wife your weigh ticket. Maybe it will help lighten up with the clothes.

Our clothes don't add up to much. One gallon of water weighs as much as 4 or 5 pairs of my jeans -- all my clothes for a week don't weigh more than a few gallons of water.

I have never weighed what we take, but expect clothes isn't that significant. My tool box alone weighs more than my clothes.

I hear ya Chance and my tool box, spare parts etc. probably weighs a bunch also, but I am sticking with heavy clothes story and see if that works. Probably won't, but can't hurt trying.

We also pack a lot, and often use half of what we take during a week' trip. For us the space extra clothes takes is more of an issue than the weight. It's interesting to me that when we travel by air, we pack a lot less.

Regarding your original question, I believe Motorhome Magazine tested an Axis or Vegas and weighed it as they typically do. I'll see if I can find the article.

Don't forget water weighs 8.3 lbs per gallon. So if your fresh water tank is full (42 gallons), and your gray is 1/3 full (14 gallons), and black is 1/3 full (14 gallons) that equals 70 gallons or 560 lbs. The canned goods, gas grill, pots and pans, and aluminum folding table and chairs are way heavier than the clothes will be. Then there is also, how do I delicately say this, the "pudgy" factor. It's easy to hit 1000 lbs total above chassis weight.

I couldn't find the MotorHome Magazine article I was thinking of (I'm not at home) but found another where they estimated weight at 10,300 pounds. That sounds consistent with Jamie's data.

You may also be interested in the following article on 25-foot-long Winnebago Via which puts weight around 9,020 pounds. That's a diesel and with two small slides. While a little smaller than Axis/Vegas, the tested fuel economy is much better, showing that reduced size and weight helps a lot.

My estimated weight with all tanks full on a Vegas 24.1 was 11410.1 lbs.

For guesstimation purposes:

Water 8.3 lbs per gallon
Gas 6.6 lbs per gallon
LPG 4.2 lbs per gallon

These have to be considered in the cargo capacity

For me it's the stuff the wife has in the kitchen. 2 of every pot and pan imaginable and she has never, ever, cooked a meal inside the motorhome. When we cook it is me doing it on the outdoor kitchen's grill.

I usually travel with about 1/4-1/3 tank fresh water and dump each morning before pulling out and have around 1/2-3/4 propane. Next trip, I will get a weigh ticket and see how it goes. I did remove the tables that are stock items since last time, so that should remove 30 lbs or so. We are using folding tables now. Much lighter and easier to stow. After the New Year, I will start working on the "pudgy" factor.
