Furnace: Noise
Hello again everyone,
I noticed a very loud humming noise from my furnace. Anyone else have the same problem? If so, have you figured out what was the problem?
Thanks again.

Electrical hum
Mechanical hum
Air velocity hum
Rattle interference hum
Only when flame on, only on high, always there at the same frequency/volume?
I have a part (few people have seen) to recommend, but we don't know what's wrong....
It could be anything from a loose vent to a ceramic dish plate to the outside door finding a sound frequency it loves.

And is it a different sound than when it is running normally? I assume you know what it sounds like normally?

Furnace noise
First couple of times using the Furnace the howl was a bit much. There was several different sounds and thinking something was amiss from the factory (how strange.... not!) I removed the door and took a look. I found that the flue section in the door that has a vent for supply and exhaust looked like it was too far into the flue tube. You can see on the one pic that on the lower side the straight tube from the door overlapped the bottom of the curve in the bend, creating a bit of a 'lip' which may be creating some sonic howl or turbulence.
Reading the installation instructions the overlap between the two tubes only needs to be 1-1/2" and this was closer to 4". So I cut off an inch of the tube in the shop (dremel to keep from oblonging it), polished the end and reinstall. Last pic you can clearly see bottom of the flue curve looking in the exhaust end.
Results are better but not perfect. A bit less in intensity and howl inside. But still louder than I would like. Outside about the same. Next project is to get some sound deadening foam and install inside around the furnace watching the clearances for air flow.
Fun Fun Fun...

I thought that was the problem with mine as well, because it looks very similar to your picture.
Thank you so much. I will consider doing the same.

I insulated this "Cold air intake" area with home HVAC duct insulation some contact spray. It help with the fan noise but not the deep drone of the burner. Still much better than factory.

Furnace Noise
I've have two distinct furnace noises. The blower running, tolerable. The furnace housing sheet metal vibrating when the burner is on - intolerable.
I removed the panel from inside the coach to access the furnace. When the burner is on the furnace sheet metal housing vibrates, creating the annoying sound. Putting my hand on the panel dampens the sound. So I'm looking for a stick on vibration dampening material to attach to the vibrating furnace panel.
Sorbothane is one of several manufacturer of dampening materials. However, the panel does get hot during operation so I will reach out to Sorbothane next year for recommendations on heat and flammability suitability.
One more complaint added to the growing list of manufacturing fails by Thor on my XG32. Love the Ford side though.
