I generally don't need much help I have to ask about and the gator and 4x4 and welding and fabrication guys pretty well seem to have it figured out.

I hang here only because some here post things like:
'I fixed the really hard to find problem on my xxx'
And then don't bother to even give a second thought to explaining what and why as a favor to anyone else.
Drives
Me
Mad.

Others post things like
'220v divided by your 30amps' as gospel to people who wouldn't know an ampere from an amplifier.
I'm here to give newbs a break and help them sort horse-shit from fact.

And Happy Holidays to you,as well...
Thor simply bought a product to install in their RVs; and low pricing probably drove their decision...

... Just as it did throughout the RV industry...

... and every other industry that bought stuff covered in vinyl...

But since it's your rig: doesn't that make it your problem now?
However you choose to deal with it: the choice is yours. Good luck!

We will shop around. Here in Dothan, Alabama, we are quite limited in upholstery places. Have one estimate of $3,500 and getting another one next week. All three of the upholstery shops want us to take the furniture apart and bring it to them then reinstall ourselves after we get it recovered. We are not "handy" at things like this. We looked at taking it out ourselves but even that seems difficult or beyond our capabilities. Wish we could find a place that will keep the RV and fix it on site. We are near Florida and Georgia- hopefully someone can recommend a place where we can do this.

I'm sorry it's not working out.
For that money you can order new with recliners and heat and all the toys.
They install/come out easily enough.
If you're not handy any handyman can have them in and out in under four hours. Have your friend or neighbor recommend whomever they trust t for their house repairs.

I would suggest new instead of recovered.
We have ran into some pretty dubious upholstery places in the past.

I personally would try an automotive upholstery place if I wanted a refitment.
Go to a car show, have a nice walk around and ask who did the interior you find acceptable.
The automotive guys are very picky and the lines are dead straight.
The couch type guys... Not so much.

(my wife does fine upholstery. THAT'S why we have the stupid amount of red leather. She was recovering the house couches. she says the front seats of our RV would need better foam and to buy the seat would be cheaper than her redoing them.
We have sold her 44inch deep throat sail maker singer so she's down to a saddlery sewing machjne an embroidery machine and her Bernina. The 44 was used for making door panels on Hudson.
She's a pretty serious hobbiest. Outside of auto restoration she's seen good work seldom.

we bought a new Thor Palazo and the furniture fabric all rotted. We had to have it all replaced.

That's not the only problem we've had. I would never recommend Thor to anyone, unless I hated them.

And oddly, you still own it five years later, discontent and all.
Why?

It was about $2400 to recover the two captains chairs, jackknife and the dinette we chose a durable fabric, and had to remove all the pieces and take them to the upolostery shop.it was not a hard job to remove the furniture and we were able to put the bolts and screws back in correctly.

As most of you know by now the bad ultraleather was industy wide

The majority of OEM (furniture) were stung by the problem

Very few coaches come with fabric or top grain leather

Quality furniture or seats cost significantly more whether in a truck, RV, or house

The same seat isn't used at all price points

If it’s decent fabric of some sort, and shop has quality rep, this price isn’t bad. But instead of just recovering what you’ve got look on shop4seats or reciprocal and check out other stuff. This is an opportunity to upgrade (?) or customize.

Thank you! This is exciting advice. I think we will definitely need to upgrade the captain's chairs! Took a shirt trip and they were quite uncomfortable for both of us. Also glad to know that $3,500 is not a ridiculous price.

We're in the same boat so to speak. Do the shopr4seats couches/dinettes come in pieces to get it inside the narrow coach door ?

We found a place called Anchor and Thread in Santa Rosa, Florida and in Atlanta, Georgia. The owner is going to come to our house (we live between the two businesses). He will take out our RV furniture (sofa, dinette, drop down bunk trim pieces), recover it, upgrade our captains chairs with recliners and more bells and whistles and recover them in matching leather (actually top level of marine grade vinyl) all for around $3,500. Then he will return the furniture to us and install it to make sure it fits correctly. He is going to stop by here and drop off sample books and will make a "project board" of what we are going to do. We will also get updates throughout the process and it will take 2 - 3 weeks from start to finish! This is much more work for about the same as getting just the basics with our same captains chairs with us having to remove everything! Grateful to everyone's help and comments. Will keep you posted as this progresses. Work to start second week of March!
