Ford 6.8L V10 vs Chevy 6.L Vortec V8

I am looking at class C's in the 24/25 ft. range. I do not tow anything. I would like any reviews and comparison on either of these engines. Power, reliability and gas milage difference. Currently running a class c with the Ford V10. Not unhappy with it but and considering a different floor plan. Happy Trails.

Thumbs up

What RV is built on a Chevy chassis with the 6.0L V8? The only one who used that chassis that I know of was the Pleasure-Way Lexor and they stopped using it around 2015. They use the Dodge V6 now. I had a 2005 Lexor and liked the Chevy engine in the 20’ Class B, but I think it would have Ben underpowered in a larger Class C.

I think that the Chevy puts put more horsepower, but the Ford has the edge in the torque department...

One that I am looking at is the Jayco 22C. Have seen others.

The 6.0 offers aftermarket support that cranks out 690hp for under $6,000.
The v10 doesn't offer this or I'd have spent the $6,000

Buy the Chevy engine, spend the money, own a veritable road rocket.

Other than that reason to choose, there is no reason to choose.

I just traded a 2015 Express 2500 LWB with the 6.0 on the wife's new car. I bought it, among other reasons, based on the 10K towing capacity. It performed sub standard. Won't hardly pull a greasy string from a cat's behind. V-10 is noisy but the higher torque is what you need.

Coachman builds several of their Class C's on the 6L Chevy chassis. The 342 HP is a bit better than the V-10 but the 373 foot lbs of torque is a bit paltry when compared to the Ford's 460 ft lbs.
I looked at a couple of Coachman C's before I opted for the Thor Ford Class A. I figured the increase in torque with the V10 better serves us towing our Jeep. We did have a Chevy 6L in a 22' B+ we drove for 12 years with no issues. The engine was very well mated to the smaller motorhome and was a great performer on the flats and in the Rockies. 60,000 miles with nothing but oil and filters. Pulled 2000 lbs worth of boat, motors and trailer for the bulk of those years as well. That did take a toll on the trans though had to replace that the last season we drove the B Touring Cruiser.
