Hi,
Everything I've read points to the need to run the generator under a 50% load for 30 minutes to an hour, at least monthly, when in storage.

My question is, do you still do this when the temperature is near zero? Is it harmful to start the generator when it is that much below freezing?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Depends on what oil you are using. Typically a generator uses strait 30 weight oil. That's extremely thick and hard to start when below 32 degrees f. If you have something like a 5w40 you can start when it gets down into the single digits. Below 0 I would just wait until a warmer day.

Freezing no problem. I run Motor Home generator and House Back up generator monthly. I have it in my cell phone calendar as a reminder.

I also run it regularly during the winter without issue.
