Shore power issue

I'm having issues with the AC power circuit on our Vegas, if I try to use multiple appliances at the same time (air conditioner, microwave, blow dryer etc) it will either trip the external 30 amp breaker or if on generator bog down to the point it shuts off.

Does anyone have an easy way to isolate the individual circuits to see where the problem is?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like normal condition in a 30 amp rig.

Install an AC ammeter:

An A/C, a microwave and a hair dryer will together draw 35+ amps which will trip a shore power 30A circuit or bog down the generator exactly as you describe. At best you can run two out of three of these at the same time, maybe only one if the converter is charging heavily or some other AC load.

Unfortunately with 30 amps, you have to play by the "Green Acres" rules.

In our rig the "high amperage" appliances are the A/C, water heater (on electric) and microwave. To avoid the inconvenience of a trip outside to reset the pedestal breaker, we only use one of those at a time.

If the A/C is on and we need the microwave... we turn A/C off until done with microwave. Etc. Etc. Overkill? Maybe... but the minor inconvenience beats the PIA of going outside in pouring rain...

Definitely the green acres method when on 30 amp service. We did that all the time before we got a 50 amp coach.

If you're on shore power, you can use a hillbilly hack. Plug a decently robust extension cord into a (usually) 20amp pedestal receptacle. Run that into the coach and use for the blow dryer.

P.S. You should be utilizing an "electric management system" (EMS). It's more than just a surge protector... it will save you much grief when encountering a mis-wired pedestal, or over/under voltage - which can do serious damage to your appliances and/or wiring.

Note that the above extension cord "hack" actually bypasses any EMS protection... so use at your own risk.

These EMS devices are either plugged into the pedestal or internally installed in your motorhome. Mine is internal, and has a remote display which shows total amperage... very handy to avoid tripping breakers.
