Getting New Vegas Ready For First Trip

We purchased a new Vegas 25.3 on December 2, and have spent most of December getting things ready for our first big trip. We are leaving Kentucky on the morning of the 27th, driving straight through (three drivers) to San Francisco via I40 to Los Angeles and then up I5 to SF. Five days in SF and then back home.

For the return it will be just the Mrs and me, so things will be a lot slower. We plan on three days down the Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles, and then fourteen days (or more) for the return via Route 66 all the way to St Louis.

In preparation for the first long trip, the following has been done...
(some of this is from prior motorhome)

1. Front end alignment
2. Safe-T-Plus steering damper
3. Heavy Duty Hellrig sway bars front and rear
4. A TireMinder system
5. A Valtera sewer hose carrier mounted underneath
6. A Flow-Rite battery fill kit
7. A set of auxiliary LED backup lights mounted under rear bumper
8. New hose and water filter and pressure valve for fresh water
9. New sewer hose and attachments as needed, box of latex gloves
10. 30 Amp dogbone inline circuit analyser and a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter, coax for cable hookup
11. Atlas, GPS, and a printed copy of Ed's manual (Thanks Ed!!)
12. Electric heater, hand tools, supplies (duct tape, WD-40, etc), portable air compressor

And I hope to finish installing a full-time rear view wireless camera system before we leave.

But I still keep feeling like I've forgotten or omitted something important...so my question to all of you is...

What have I missed?

and

What are your Route 66 recommendations?

We did the Route 66 thing but on the leg you aren't going to take! LOL (St. Louis to Chicago). I used Travelpod to log the trip: Travel Blog: 2014 Summer camping trip

Having said that you'll want to make sure you drive over the musical road:
Tijeras, NM - Route 66 Musical Road

Hmm:

We did the St. Louis to Chicago leg last summer over the July 4th holiday. Seven days STL to CHI...best trip ever!! I didn't do a blog but I have about 500 photos. This will complete Route 66 for us, and our next project is the Lincoln Highway coast-to-coast.

I wasn't aware of the musical highway, but i will research it before we leave...thanks.

I am just guessing here, but since the northern states have already had a couple major snow/ice storms I would guess you will possibly be involved in some of that due to your timetable. I would be sure to have a long handled snow brush and some Heat or other fuel additive on board.

We are going west on I-40...and we are prepared to drop down to I-10 if needed. As for the return trip...we just have our fingers crossed, but we will divert further south if forced to do so.

Sounds like a really fun trip. Even dropping down to the south there could still be some higher elevations this time of year that could get you in trouble. In the 70's I lived at WSMR outside Las Cruces. The Augustin pass was under 6,000 feet on Rt. 70 between there and Las Cruces but several times between December and February it was snowed in. If you are prepared and check ahead you shouldn't have an issue though. Safe travels.

The Mrs. will take care of that, lol. One of the few things I don't have to worry about.

A couple things to add:
1) A QAM tuner (available at any electronics store). Some campground cable systems require them. The SEIKI TVs dont have QAM tuners.
2) Foul Weather gear and DVDs for rainy days (it happens)

Have fun!

Thanks for the information...a QAM tuner is now on the list of things to get. Heading for San Francisco, we expect some wet weather, and have packed accordingly. And DVDs and an Apple TV are already onboard.
