Good reason to use pump rather than city water

Ours started chirping suddenly every few seconds. I found the plastic tightener on the hot water tank had split and it was leaking. I suspect heat from the tank is harder on the fittings there. Had I been hooked to city water, I never would have known about it until significant water had leaked out. Even so it was a significant amount. I never hook to city water, I always fill the tank & use the internal pump. With city water you can have a leak and not know it, with a pump you can always hear it chirp if you have a leak. I always also turn off the pump when I leave the RV. I was lucky, I was camping with a retired plumber who had the Pex tool and fittings, we repaired it in a home depot parking lot.
