Got locked out of our RV!!

We own a 2020 Thor Freedom Elite, and over the Thanksgiving weekend, we stepped out to make breakfast, closed the RV door and got locked out! Lower lock latch must have dropped down to lock position.
Has anyone else experienced this? Anything we can adjust/tighten to prevent this from happening again? Only solution we came up with is to keep the passenger door unlocked.

You didn't have your keys with you?

Even though we have keyless entry I still keep a key in a magnetic holder on the MH hidden and the spare set always ride in the Towed.

There are some locksets that seem to fall easily and I have seen folks use a rubber band to hold a bit of tension keeping then from engaging. I would dig into it and determine and apply a better fix.

Welcome to the forum!

Be sure you hide a set of keys before you take your RV out again. On my previous coach I kept it on the top, figuring it wasn't likely that anyone would climb up there. A waterproof pouch (think a kayaker's small wet bag) tied to the air conditioner is pretty safe. You don't expect to need access to it often.

An easier access hiding place would be in the compartment with the LP tank. I like the magnetic idea, but those can only hold one or two standard keys.

I do the same, but over the years there have been a few times when those keys weren't with me and I have saved time by having a hidden spare set.

Note to Bob: I had to rewrite this to prevent you from accusing me of losing my pants. That has never been the issue. Apparently not for you either!

Do you have the trimark locks? It could be the lock that has failed. There have been many posts on this issue.

I always had a 'hide a key' hidden somewhere on the Gemini. When we had the Tiffin Bus, I never locked one of the windows, always figured if I couldn't get through the window, I could borrow someone's kid and boost him or her through the window to unlock from the inside.

We had this happen to us. I was outside the camper and the wife stepped out and for some reason the door locked. As others have said we now keep a set of keys hidden on the RV in an accessible place for us.

Got locked out.

We had an ACE 27.1 and were having work done at CW. When we went to pick up the RV and check it out we couldn't open the door. Tried again and the door opened. Tried again an it wouldn't open. Luckily, the folks at CW were able to take the lock off and found a piece was broken inside the lock. They replaced the lock. It had nothing to do with the key.

Locked IN

We have a 2013 Thor Tuscany and were locked IN on 3 different occasions and on the 3rd time we had a friend on the outside with the keys but to no avail. We had to crawl out of the driver's window. All of the interior hardware on the door had to be replaced.

Friends found this amusing as we were locked in and could not get out. We were not laughing!

Keys.

I have a spare key hidden in the propane compartment. Compartment doesn’t lock so key is always available.

I got out of my 25.4 Axis to prep my boat for launch an the wind blew the door shut an locked me out, it was the dead bolt that did the trick, I had the drivers window open so was able to reach in an pull the keys out of the ignition, now I keep a spare set of keys in my boat now
