Yeah this isn't a camping post but I figured I've mentioned it once or twice soo here we are.

Turned in the Bolt on the same day I picked up the Mach-E. This version is the California Route 1 trim which means big battery (99kWh), RWD with the aero covers over the wheels. Its the longest ranged version of the car rated for 305 EPA miles.

Unfortunately it isn't towable, and even if it was I'd be pushing the limits on our Axis with its 4600lb girth (our Axis is old enough that it only has a 5000 lb hitch instead of the 8k ones they are putting on newer models). This means our camping trips will either mean driving two vehicles or towing an Escape.

Have to say, though, it is cool with tons of "tech" lol.

Yeah I know: "Not a Mustang" LOL

Awesome!

I'm very happy for you and more than a little envious! My 2014 volt is going to handle the transport chores for us for a while longer, not that we mind at all.

Have fun!!!

I've had a Level-2 (240V) charger (EVSE) since 2013 when I got a Focus Electric.

Yes winter temps take a bite out of EV range. The Guess-O-Meter (what the "distance to empty" meter on an EV is commonly referred to) currently reads about 180 miles for our wonderful 10F degree weather we're having here.

I haven't driven it in the summer yet so don't know that range but I'm fully expecting to get more range than the 305 EPA miles due to the warmer weather.

Way cool, Jamie! You can probably get by with towing the Escape. Will be looking for a report on the new cutting edge tech.

I to try to make semi-regular posts on my blog:
https://spareelectrons.wordpress.com/

(Including the most recent one where there is a video of us driving through a local campground trying to get the car stuck in the snow LOL.)

No really, it just parked in the driveway and I had to beg the wife "can we keep it?? please"

(Made a reservation for it in November 2019 right after Ford's presentation...been a long time coming.)

Jamie, if you want to bring it along, you could always trade in the Axis for a “Tesla Friendly” small trailer and tow it with the Mustang. You’d be all electric.

P.S. — Does Ford even have a tow rating on the electric Mustang?

LOL Seen that.

Nope no tow rating in the US (in Europe it has a really light one so people can carry bikes on the back or minimal stuff--guess they think that US people would be stupid ).

Did you see that Airstream is going to make some trailers with EV assist to help out EVs towing them:

Have not seen much on electric trailers, but was aware of development in Europe in that area. I think companies like Hymer and others out of Germany have been working on that concept. It’s a lot of cost for a vehicle that is parked most of its life.

The Forbes article gives a bit more information on tiny teardrop.

I have to remind myself that we have little natural middle ground; instead seem hard wired to go to extremes in either direction.

Nice little battery operated cars. My kids played with those. So do they take 4 AAA’s or those annoying C size batteries?

I prefer the gas guzzling Ford super-crew trucks, Mercedes Benz and BMW autos for style and horsepower. Your battery stuff is ok for commuting or short hops then you have to find a place to plug them in. That is the great deal killer. Distance on a single charge and charge locations. Nice to see some of you buy up the “green new deal” stuff. I would hate to see auto companies stop developing because “they don’t sell very well”. Until battery and power storage reaches a new plateau in science these current electric cars are just overpriced toys. Trouble is when you plug them in you are drawing power from the plant belching pollution and countering your environmental friendly car.

Seems to me electric cars are like mountain oysters. Some people will buy them and love them while others laugh at the thought.

But like Rodney Dangerfield said, “but oh, it looks good on you”.
