Hail Damage

Well my 2017 Freedom Elite 26fe took a beating yesterday from 1.5" hail. Its still covered in leaves but up front the only visible damage was the hood of the van and a broken skylight in the shower.

What Should I look out for?

My guess is when I clean off the leaves im going to find some more damage im guessing to the front of the bunk in the front. Side was pretty protected by the shed it was parked next to. need to get it home to hose off the leaves and see whats below but its now stuck in mud.

My house, cars (including a 1966 mustang) all took damage as well.

Call your Insurance Agent: the Company will have field adjusters available, who know exactly what to look for.
Good luck!

For sure call insurance but living so close to Indiana, take it factory...they will check everything and have all the parts on hand to fix it in record time. With the savings of $100 per hour labor rate and the threat of further water damage, insurance may cover part of the transportation expense. Even if they didn't, it would be much better than sitting on a dealer's lot for months. Probably lots of others in your area got it too, so waiting times will be extended. There's no better service in the country than what they do in Wakarusa.

We're next door in Indiana. Hail missed us thank goodness but got lots of wind and 2" of rain in 20 minutes! Sorry to hear you took damage. I have to ask, how bad is the Mustang???? I've owned a 68 resto mod and a MCA correct 69 Mach1. Hate to hear about a vintage pony taking a hit, a soft spot with me.

First thing is NOT to hose off the roof. If you have damage water won't help and will hurt, a lot. Just sweep it off or use a leaf blower. Second you need to mitigate any future passive damage caused by possible water leaks. Tarp the coach if necessary. And get on the phone ASAP with you insurance. Make them earn the money you've been paying for however long.

Potential damage is to skylights, vent covers, A/C covers, end caps and such. Any hard surface could have taken damage. If the roof is fiberglass the extend can be the entire roof. If you have a soft roof feel around for damage to the under laying thin ply. Feel for dents, creators, cracks and such that the synthetic skin might be hiding.

Work with you insurance regarding repairs. They may have suggestions on where to take the coach. Keep in mind that repairs might take some time, as in weeks if the damage is extensive, which is why your mitigation efforts are paramount to limited further damage by water leaks. Get a few weeks of rain water into the side walls,,,. Well lets just say not good.

Good luck.

One thing hasn't been mentioned - - pictures !

Take pictures from every conceivable angle, close ups and wide shots, different lighting conditions, and when you think you have enough.....shoot more.

We lucked out with that hail storm because we were at our Indiana property camping at the time. Still got some hail but smaller dime size so loud but no damage to MH or my truck. House and workshop got some damage but not bad considering what some in the area got. Toyota dealer a few miles north had $4,000,000 damage and some friends had vehicles totaled. Jim.

Mustang faired better then all the cars. Probably has 5 dents or so. Brought it to the place doing all the estimates in the area. Just a big chain body shop. They said they will not work on classic cars. Insurance said take it to a restoration company. When the rain stops hopefully I can get it over to someone to look at it.

Did stop by a dent shop and he said he can get out all of the dents he can get to the back side of but the others will have to be filled and painted.

Good ole classics! Probably more metal in that one Mustang than all the others too. It's good to hear your insurance wanted it to go to a restoration shop, they know how to work on classics. Hope all your damage gets taken care of to your satisfaction!

Well They sent me to a restoration shop and then only wanted to pay normal labor rate. Restoration shops seem to be $70-90hr and they want to pay $53. The shops that will charge $53 wont work on classic cars..... Let the fun begin.

I've seen this happen many times...
Have your Agent intercede on your behalf: he is in a better position to explain the difference in the hourly charge...

I would make them send and adjuster out vs drive to dealer. Tell them you are uncomfortable driving not knowing what could be wrong. I do believe it’s in your power to request this.
