Hands Free Walkie Talkie
Looking for recommendations on walkie talkie that is hands free using a small headset. To be used for parking and maneuvering RV when a spotter is required. Also to be used in or out of RV to overcome background noise. Any suggestions or experiences????

Cobra makes an excellent product and most of them come in pairs and include the headsets. I've had several brands over the years and seems Cobra has done the best job of all of them. As Sears so well defined..."Good, Better, Best"...go with the best which will run you around $80-100. Cobra CXT645 is an excellent set as they are long-range, waterproof, include weather radio with alert and have rubber coatings for grip in rain. They also have a built in flashlight. They work great also as a two way between the camper and CG store, traveling with another vehicle, playground or any other time you are separated.

We have a pair of Motorola MR350R walkie-talkies with headsets. They also come in a package deal and can be found at Bass Pro Shops, etc. They have pretty much the same features as the Cobras that Gritz described.

If you have cell phones just put them on speakerphone and you can talk hands free. I have a phone mount on the dash so I don’t have to hold my phone while maneuvering, wife stands where needed and conversation is easy. You can also use phone earbuds to talk hands free if you don’t want to use a dash mount.
I had a pair of walkie talkies but they never seemed to be charged when I needed them, gave them to the grandkids to play with.

Two Way Radios don't require a cell signal to work and will always provide you with the service you are looking for...even in the most remote locations. The cradle that comes with them can be "double stick taped" to a countertop somewhere, stay plugged in and always be fully charged and ready to deploy.

I agree; although if the channels are all "crowded": it can get a bit tough to pick out your partner.
Try using one in Walt Disney World!

I got a pair, used them for awhile and the next year discovered that the rechargeable batteries 'would not' and I could not buy new batteries either. Got another pair for about $20 and this pair uses just AAA batteries. Since we don't tow the car, she just uses it to talk back and forth (pet wants out, let's eat, need gas, turn coming up, follow me into the campground ...etc. ). I change the Batteries at the end of the day to prevent them from going dead next day. Maybe next year we'll get a street legal 3 wheeled scooter (maybe 4K cost) to put on my trailer to go to the tourist sites near the campgrounds.

Thanks for replies. Have found lots of users pros and cons. Makes it hard to choose. Sounds like walkie talkies will be fine for RV to outside communications. Would also like to have headsets just to talk to passenger without raising voice over road and engine noise. Walkie talkies seem a bit overkill for that. Any simple solutions?

aren't walkie talkies still simplex communication? (only one person talking at a time)
and require a push to talk switch?
...making them not hands free

I think the walkie talkies will be fine for communicating to the outside. Has anyone tried using motorcycle communication headsets for driver and passenger to talk?

Has anyone used the Eartec UL2S headsets for RV communications?

This is like those used in sport games. Could have used it this weekend in close quarters parking after dark.

Hands free should be better since you never know where those hands have been in a campground.
