Has anyone built or bought...

...one of those "halfway houses"?
I'm not sure of what they should be called: but they are those tiny little three or four room places; with a covered carport for the camper.
The carport has full hookups for the RV, and you use both it, and the house for your living spaces.
The Missus and I are looking for a Plan B...

Friend has one in middle TN, maybe a tad larger but very similar

He prefers privacy so not much detail

It sits on 1/4 acre so room but still low maintenance

Another acquaintance has one in a community near Crossville TN

Much larger scale with s 50x16 rv attached garage so a Shouse by definition

Third friend has a Barndominium in KS built as a pole type building with an apartment

Good luck on the project

They are called RV Porthomes and I know a few people that bought them in Florida. We looked at them in TN and determined they are not worth the cost being asked especially with the limitations placed on them by the community associations (HOA).

Thanks for the info!
I'm thinking that if I can find a tiny lot in the right place: we'd build what we need...
it comes down to finding the spot, and then researching building costs.

They are cool but expensive for what you get...and most of them are tied to an HOA...I'll never own another property with a "blank check" attached to it. We recently purchase a lot in Crystal River as investment and as a 2nd option going forward. I looked into that option before purchasing and it's OK with codes to build one and there's no HOA. Crystal River is the next boom town just north of Tampa. Everything south from there is packed.

I hear ya!
We're looking for an area not yet polluted by the HOA virus...
Someplace where the Winters aren't all that snowy, and street criminals can be dealt with by your own personal choice of firepower!

Mini RV friendly House

They have these in Florida and along the gulf coast. I leased one in Orange Beach, Alabama this summer at Heritage Motorcoach Resort & Marina. OMG it was really nice. They do have a few for slae right now. Not sure you want to pay $350,000-$585.000 for a tiny house, RV pad and a small covered back patio. Sure they are nice but seemed to me to have been built for people that burn money in firepits. You could build the same things they have in the area of under $100,000

Hi Bob

I too have been researching the idea of buying a piece of land and put in a cement pad plus building with power, water/sewer or septic system as a place to go whenever we want to travel out of the city. Been looking at small land parcels in Kentucky/Tennesse. We would not go there in the winter but the other seasons would be a go. I would want something large enough to drive the coach into it.

Paul

Nice but expensive

I was looking at those type of property but they are too expensive for what they offer. Some are full resort like living.
For that money you can probably buy a nice house near the beach and have money left to pay for the storage of the motorhome.
We are considering buying some land or a lot in a community with no HOA. If we find a nice place.

You can get a developed lot near Table Rock Lake between 100-150k with minimal restrictions or HOA

Those kind of developments are all over the place here in Texas. The thing is, they are way over priced for what you get. However, there are tons of acres of raw land for sale and plenty of contractors will build a brand new barndominium large enough to provide covered storage for the coach. If you buy a lot large enough you can get an ag or conservation exemption and pay practically no property tax.

Winter here in Knox County Tennessee is not bad. Seldom does it stay below freezing for an extended period and when we get snow it is usually gone in a day or two. Folks from the north retire to Florida and then decide it is to hot down there. They end up moving to East Tennessee or Western North Carolina and we call them half-backs because they move half way back to where they came from.

Something to consider is definitely Taxes

Mine have doubled in 5 years in Geary Co KS, currently $3700 on a 1/2 acre lot the house and shop set on

Approximately 75% higher than a similar property in MO

Pick your state and let Google do the work
Here's a search for "tiny house in TX"

Here's a possibility. You could live in the RV inside the quonset hut. Run on shore power, connect to septic system and well or utilities.

Bob,
Whenever you decide to do this, make sure you build the bar and bbq area first.
Then, in a circle pour and build 5 barndaminimun or whatever they call them.
Then when bored, invite friends
When tired of them, off they go.
