Heated Fresh, Black & Gray for 30FE

I checked with Ron Baker at Thor Motor Coach Warranty/Customer Service and he said the Black and Gray tanks are protected with electric heat pads that you turn on at monitor panel. He hasn’t replied regarding Fresh water yet. The manual showed all tanks were protected by the furnace’s ducts but evidently only the Fresh Water. As soon as I get a reply from Ron Baker, I’ll post it here.

Do you know where your fresh water tank is?
Is it below the floor or above the floor (e.g. in the living area protected, or below the floor outside)?
On our Axis the fresh tank is above the floor under a bed (thus heated by the furnace). The waste tanks, on the other hand, are below the floor unprotected (and have heater pads on them).
No need to ask anyone, just look around your coach.

No heat on the fresh water. Not needed as it is inside, most likely under the sofa, but is heated by the inside air temp.

The freeze point to look for is if you have the little drain spicket on the side of the unit like in my 26B. The fresh water has about a foot of exposed water line outside the interior and beneath the rig.

Ours has switches for Grey, Black and Fresh, but probably differently located on the Gemini.

It’s above the floor which would be heated by furnace but wanted Thor Customer Setvice to confirm.

Yes I concur. My unit does too. I drained the fresh water and blew out the water lines. I was surprised that after I did this and removed water Hester plug: no water came out. I left plug out per winterization instructions.

It’s above the floor in the RV.

Yes I checked mine as well. I had drained fresh water and blew out all water lines then added Antifreeze to water traps and toilet. When I unscrewed plug on water heater, no water came out so Motor home is winterized.

You have brought up an interesting point: what good are heated tanks; if the lines running out of them aren't protected?

Show us some pics of the completed project; good luck!

Typically there are heating pads on the waste tanks and the fresh tank is above the floor (in the heated part of the coach).

The pipes running to the waste tanks are typically empty unless you are running water somewhere or flushing and thus won't be an issue if they get cold.

The pipes running from the fresh water tank will be inside with the fresh water tank and won't freeze if you don't.

Ron Baker, Thor Warranty Service said that there are no heating pads on waste water even though the monitor panel have two switches for Black & Gray tank heaters. Why would they do that?

So Thor is saying they are dummy switches???? Our Gemini was sold to us, with the salesman stating those switches power heating pads, on both waste tanks and the fresh water tank. We do have three switches on the panel.

I hadn't thought of this...
Thanks for setting me straight...

Very simple solution to heated waste tanks. Go look and if you see a foam pad on the bottom of the tank. If you do, it is heated.
This thread reminded me to, so I did. It is 25 degrees outside and we had to move into the coach the other night due to power outage. I had both tanks drained, but needless to say, the yellow tank got used a little, so I turned on the tank heat. Gray tank without heat (completely drained) 31 degrees at gate valve. Yellow tank 42 degrees at gate valve.

So, then next question. Since nothing black goes into the black tank, why isn't it called the brown tank?

Just get under coach and look. The pads are usually just stuck on the bottom of the tanks. You will see wires com8n* off them.

This past week before last I utilized my black & gray tank heaters & they worked good, I did have to make up a heated water supply hose that kept it from freezing
