Remove drop down bunk Axis

Has anyone tried removing the drop down bunk from an Axis? How did you do it?

People have asked before and I think the consensus was simply "just don't use it".

Do you have a particular reason for wanting to remove it?

Space Found

We lowered ours about 12" and support it in the lowered location with heavy nylon straps. The straps are looped over the OEM pin support. We then hung a small curtain across.
It's very secure and easily reversible without modification.

I'll take that over someone posting the same question multiple times and in multiple parts of the forum.

Yes. The teeth on one of the tracks is broken and it will cost thousands of dollars to fix. The driver's side won't raise up any higher than the top of the seat. I want to remove it. I'm not really looking for answers about how to make a dysfunctional "feature" look cute or how to ignore it. I would like to remove it. Please only respond if you have suggestions about how to do that safely. Thanks.

Wow. twice in five years. that's crazy. I wonder if there will ever be an answer to the question that isn't avoiding the question before another five years goes by?

I'll be frank:
It's 26 bucks to fix it.
If you cant fix it yourself,
You can't remove it yourself.

my new 2022 Vegas has a manufacturing defect where bunk bracket on driver side is installed 1/8" too close to the wall track, which causes it to bump into screw heads, messing up the sync and locking up.
I tried to disassemble it just far enough to access the bracket screws to move the bracket and found it impossible as some screws are installed prior to gluing plywood base, so I'd have to rip it out just to access the bracket screws. Even some trim screws are buried under plywood. But if you are OK with destroying plywood, then it should be doable with much swearing and head shaking.
In my case a better solution was to remove track screws and grind them down to increase the gap.

Your coach

We have a 2014 and we’ve never used the bunk, that being said we left ours in because we thought it would be added noise buffering and it wouldn’t hurt on the insulation part too. I understand if you or anyone wants to remove the bunk. It’s your coach to do with whatever you want to do and just because you cant fix something doesn’t mean you cant remove it or have it removed. Not using it iv not taken the time to really get a good look at it, but even if things like screws are hard to get to there are tools out there that will help you disassemble the bunk and remove it. Best of luck to you and happy camping.

have you considered removing all the track screws and just removing the bad track, while leaving the bunk and the other track in place, supporting the bunk by the seat in whatever position that allows to free up the bad track and insert the new one, without fully removing the bunk?
Assuming that replacement of the bad track is your ultimate goal.

Vintage Duck; Provocative yet simple straight talk for those willing to think it through.

Last time you told me I could do something for $25 bucks it cost me $170; but I was EXTREMELY pleased with the results

I would think taking it out to be extremely easy especially if you don't have to keep up with the screws you remove. Remove one screw at a time until it falls
