Help 2020 thor vegas coach battery?

coach batteries go from 13.1 to 9 very quickly. If heater used drains fast and alarm sounds at 9. What are good replacements

Walmart are excellent wetcell batteries.
Oddesy are excellent alternative technology batteries.
100 bucks Walmart
350 bucks oddessey.

I buy either.

If you let the battery voltage drop to 9 V very often they will soon be toast. Battery voltage is a very imprecise measure of state of charge, but having said that, when they get down to about 12.0 you need to stop and recharge as you don't want to go below 50% for best life.

I recently measured the stairway battery compartment on a Vegas. It was about 27" long by 9" wide by 10" tall. Two golf cart batteries would be your best choice, but they are too tall. A couple of Group 31 AGM batteries would be my next choice such as Renogy for about $450 for a pair from Amazon, much more for premium brands like Lifeline.

And for the most capacity irrespective of price, a couple of Battle Born Lithium batteries will give you more than double what you have now but for about $1,900 for a pair. Plus you can't harm them by discharging deeply like conventional batteries.

But you need to look into how much DC you are using and how you will replace it sooner than at 9 V.

The typical propane furnace draws about 20 amps when running. If you have two good flooded batteries (group 27) you have about 150 amp-h total and about 75 amp-h from 13.7 volt to 12.1 volts. If nothing else is draining the batteries you have about 4 hours of continuous operation.

Thanks all called thor with my vin and thor said not to use lithium batteries because the coach is not wired for that? Called interstate battery and they said use AGS 27 group but if 31 group fits better. DavidEM looks like group 31 will fit. Interstate will install group 31 for $160 each. Said I need 3 extra inches in the step battery area. I have it in the shop at pierce rv in montana. Since it dropped from 12 4 to 9 with nothing running could be bad cell? Maybe warranty will cover since new.

Many on this Forum (me included) had to replace our house batteries in the first few months of ownership.
These RVs sit on the Dealer’s lot for several months or more. Hence, the batteries drain due to parasitic draw from Axxera Radio, and the sensors (even when Use/Store is in the Store mode).

So you are not alone having to replace your house batteries on a fairly new rig.

Costco or SAMs club generally has the best pricing for Flooded Lead Acid.
Costco even has the Interstate brand for under $100 each.

Yes - AGM ,Flooded and Gel batteries use the lead acid chemistry and require the same charging voltages. Because of the extremely low internal resistance, AGM batteries can use a slightly higher absorption voltage for faster charging, but the results are the same. The valve regulated lead acid battery group (VRLA) includes flooded, gel and AGM types, so having no water fill ports does not make it a AGM battery. The major advantages of an AGM it will operate in any position and is a much more rugged design. The only disadvantage for an AGM is a slightly larger battery case for the same amp-h flooded battery. If you are cost conscious and only want the no water option, the VRLA flooded battery is 1/2 the price of the typical AGM.

We had our house batteries quit in the first week of ownership and thankfully they were covered by the dealership. They also repaired the dash A/C and (Drumroll please) it only took six weeks sitting on their lot. Fortunately we didn't have anything planned. Not unusual for house batteries to quit, they've probably been sitting on the lot for months.

Others will say other
But
AGM is great at battling vibration damage because the plates can't work loose and fall against each other.
And
You can lay them on their side or maybe even upside down due to different venting.
And
While I've never needed water in any wetcell battery other than my much tortured golf cart, the AGM needs no water. Others seem to have to add lots of water often to their wetcell.

The power and resource value differential is minimal between the two.

I assume you mean the self-discharge rate of the flooded vs AGM. Yes, if the coach is not plugged in and the batteries isolated. Of course there is some variance in the self-discharge rate between AGM batteries but generally the AGM self-discharge rate is 30 to 4o times better than a flooded battery. If the coach is stored plugged-in it really doesn't matter.



As for total usable electrical power a flooded battery has a little more for batteries of the same group vs AGM. As far as battery life, generally a deep cycle flooded and an deep cycle AGM have the same life IF the water level in the flooded battery is maintained or is a VRLA flooded battery.

We were boon docking for the first time, bought new 3 months ago. Battery went from 13.4 to under 10 within 4 minutes. One of the selling points was being able to boon dock. Couldn’t run the c-pap machine. Not good. We converted to 2 Deka 6 volt batteries.

As others have said they are shot. Time for new. Also as others have said Walmart. My last ones were $87ea with a 2 year replacement warranty.

If you mean that your coach was new to you as the original purchaser and the batteries failed in 3 months you should be able to get the dealer or manufacturer to reimburse you for your new batteries. Sadly, it’s not unusual for batteries in new RVs to fail. Most folks here get mad at Thor for using “junk batteries” but much more likely is that your coach was several months post manufacture and the batteries were neglected to the point of being permanently damaged.
