Here's Something to Make You Think

I can believe the amount of destruction one RV can do.

Some of those, like the one in the still image on the video above, don't even look like there is any steel/aluminum structure to the coach.

Some of those are pretty ugly.

In many cases if the motorhome rolls over, the ultra-lightweight aluminum structure doesn't survive. And if the motorhome happens to have a couple of large slides, or a full-wall slide, I don't see how we can expect them to remain in place during a roll-over. Or even a major crash for that matter.

Seat belts are often discussed, but in most of these major accidents I'm not sure they would help much.

From a safety standpoint I'd feel safest in a well built Class B. You just have to hope that in a crash everything remains attached to body instead of fly forward into cab area.

Back in the early 90's I had to help work the scene of a fatal single vehicle crash involving a DP that rolled over into the median. It was just about an 1/8 mile of fiberglass, personal items, and debris along with a chassis. It was hard to make it into an actual motorhome.

I am certain that rolling one of these over going between 60 and 80 would probably be fatal with our without a seat belt in use.

My major take from the video is through the motor home is large and imposing, it will not offer much protection in a high speed collision or when rolling over. I need to keep that in mind when driving.

But it's better that you saw it; and now know how vulnerable we all really are.

Just keep in mind that we are rolling down the highway in nothing much more protective than a cardboard box. I think I should feel safer on my motorcycle, since it's more maneuverable and because I wear a helmet.

List of crap I don't wanna ever see.

1. Wreck of something I own one of.
2. My Grandmother naked.
3. A suffering dog or cat.
4. My Grandmother naked.
5. More people like those in Iraq and Kuwait in 1991.
6. My Grandmother naked.
7. Guilty murderers going free.
8. My Grandmother naked.

Seeing this video was like seeing my Grandmother naked. No it never happened but the idea of it happening to me is enough for me to condemn it. Maybe if you had put bacon in the video I would have liked it more.

I hope that his Grandmother wasn't the one sunbathing up on your roof!

The video kind of makes you think about staying home. Years ago, I was going through St George Utah and there was a Class A in the center divider. The chassis in one spot and the house in another in pieces. Didn't see any other cars. It almost looked like it hit the ditch in the center and came apart. Anyway, safe travels to all of you. Slow down and watch for the idiots out there.
