Hot water issues

Last week while on a camping trip our hot water heater developed a problem. It will turn on on both gas and electric but will only heat the water minimally. It's sufficient to wash dishes but no where near enough to take a shower

It is an Atwood Model GC6AA-10E, which actually brings up another question. All the documentation I've been able to find on this unit says it is 6 gallons but the tag on the tank itself says it's an 8 gallon unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the water bypass on the WH open? That's what it sounds like. I ran into the same problem with a previous RV. Luke warm water until I discovered that I had turned the bypass valve on.

If you have an outside shower, make sure both valves are turned off.

Sounds like a faulty valve.

check shower valves. Both must be off along with the off knob in the hand held.

I forgot about that one. Either the shower inside or outside that has a shut off on the shower head, if you close that and leave the valves on you will wind up with luke warm water at the sink.

I wonder what happened to the OP?
