House AC

House AC was working perfectly and now will not turn on. Anyone know what a quick fix may be? Fuse? Does anyone know where the fuse panel is in a THOR ACE 29.3? Thanks!

A possible fix, with input so far, might be a simple reset of a tripped AC breaker. Those breakers are usually located in the power panel that typically has a pop off or swing-out door to expose the house type breaker switches.

This is probably a dumb question, but is all your other 110 V appliances working ( i.e. microwave)

Use a meter and check if you have 120 volts (+/-) to the AC unit. No power then work your way back to the panel. If you have power, issue with the AC unit. Not sure but there could be a reset on the AC unit.

Not a dumb question! You're right - Microwave power won't come on and also inside Fridge is only working on Gas (no electric). Now what??

You running on shore power? Have you tried the generator? Sames results on both?

If so, it could be your transfer switch. Ours had some loose wirenuts on the hot wire and arced and melted the wirenut. After replacing the wirenut (and making a better connection) Shore power worked, generator worked, and all was right with the world.

There should be an AC circuit breaker on the converter AC power distribution panel. Have you tried that?

Have you tried turning the thermostat just to fan? Try turning the thermostat to heat to see if the heater tries to start. That should eliminate the thermostat being bad.

I don't know if there are any other AC circuit breakers in the coach. If there aren't then I'd suspect the AC itself.

Ya none of this worked I have tried everything. I didn't try the heater furnace. May take out to service in the AM and see.

That is the 1 million dollar question. Ours was under the stove, even though THOR said it was under the refrigerator. We ended up going thorugh the entire coach to find it. But, learned alot about the coach that way...

Ours said TRANSFER SWITCH on the outside on the box (which is what it is, a big black metal box with relays in it)

What model do you have to locate transfer switch. Mine on mu 2015 Vegas is under the passenger twin bed on a bulkhead right behind the fresh water tank. The pix shows it.

Under the bed is another common location for the transfer switch...
If you can trace the main feed wire from the entry plug - it should be the first 'black box' you get to.... (unless there is a hardwired surge suppressor - but you would have had to add that on an Ace...)

Of course the other silly question is if anything else (outside of your rig) works on that shore power? (ie - is it sending you electricity to start with!)

If you are comfortable working with electricity - you can use a meter to check for power at the entry plug - and going in and coming out of the transfer switch... need to remove some cover(s) to do that.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be the 12V fuse. The thermostat runs off 12V. To test it, does the heater go on when you select heater and turn temp up?

Yes the heater and fan came on and was working fine. Should mention again that the inside fridge wouldn't work on electric either - on gas. And microwave will not turn on either. All of this with either oh shore power or generator. Thanks

Did you reset GFI? Should be in the bathroom.

OK... the issue is not a single GFI or 12v fuse if you have no 110 on either shore power or generator...

There should be a main breaker in the circuit breaker panel (30 or 50amp depending on your rig) - insure that isn't tripped/off...

Those 2 power sources (shore and generator) come together at the transfer switch - so that is the place to start - measuring voltage in and out... (Out can be measured on output side of transfer switch or input to circuit breaker box.)
This will require removing covers and exposing potentially live wires. Only do so yourself if you are comfortable working with electricity...

Again assuming you don't have a hardwired surge suppressor, but that is also a possible source IF wired into both input sources.

Any further information on your issue?

When we lost the leg on the transfer switch, I plugged a circuit tester (one of the three light kind) in an outlet in the coach. It showed "reversed hot and neutral". Which makes no real sense, since it was the hot lead that was disconnected after the wirenut melted.

We also noted the day before this happened that our AC unit was "vibrating" badly. I am guessing that the leg was barely making connection and was causing the AC unit to barely run. Gratefully, after the repairs, the AC unit has run perfectly. But, I had not idea that the vibrating was due to electric, I thought it was just the 100+ temps outside.

Also, good point GMC, that you need to be comfortable with electricity to work on the TRANSFER SWITCH..

I do electronics and electricity everyday, so I just do it as a second nature...

Now, plumbing, is an entirely different matter
