house battery not charging
2018 Thor Citation Sprinter 24ST. Engine alternator not charging house battery. New house battery charges fine with solar and external 110V. Where is the solenoid/isolator located? How is it controlled?

Do you have your "Use/Store" switch set to "Use" (or perhaps "On")?
That control panel is normally located by the entrance into the coach ( next to the stairs)

There are three sources of 12v DC to charge the house battery. Solar, converter
(110v-12v) and chassis generator. How is the switch made?

Bob, There is a switch there but it is labeled "Main Power". It kills the 12v power to the entire house.

That needs to be "On"; in order to charge the batteries.

On a Mercedes chassis the engine alternator does not charge the house batteries. One of Mercedes' requirements. You will have to add a cross-connect if you want that feature.

Actually... It's a one-way deal.
The alternator (at least in mine) provides charge to the house batteries; but shore power and generator power do not make their way up to the chassis battery.

You can add a small device called a Trik-L-Start charger that will use the house battery to keep the chassis battery charged. Obviously it would not be especially helpful if you are not keeping your house batteries charged but it’s easier than using multiple chargers and worrying about it. I added it when I put my solar maintainer on my house batteries. Now my small solar system is able to keep all of my batteries ready to go even in long storage.

House battery charging on a Mercedes chassis
16ACE27 is correct as confirmed by Thor customer support.
On a Mercedes chassis a Battery Isolation Manager (BIM) made by Precision Circuits Inc can be implemented. The BIM isolates the two battery systems, chassis and coach, in a motorhome. This prevents loads in one system from discharging both. It also connects the two battery systems together during charging. Both batteries are charged if either is being charged. The coach battery is charged while driving and the chassis battery is charged while plugged into shore power at a campground.

House and chassis battery charging on a Mercedes chassis
I'll get this right someday. The chassis alternator can charge the house battery, but the chassis battery cannot be charged by the house unless the BIM is installed. Attached is a battery diagram for the Mercedes chassis. Ref attached diagram.
The isolator solenoid is activated by the chassis battery. When this solenoid detects a charge coming FROM the chassis alternator, it will be activated and allow for the house batteries to charge, (with the house disconnect switch engaged of course). The house cannot charge the chassis through this solenoid. That would require a Bi-Directional Relay/BIM, which under the current agreement between Thor Motor Coach and Mercedes, is not allowed to be installed by TMC.

When mine is just sitting in the yard: I hook the chassis battery up to a 40 watt solar panel charger...

It’s not true that the Mercedes isn’t built to charge house batteries. We have a 2014 24SR. When we started having trouble with the batteries we started doing troubleshooting and fortunately founf the Trombetta before Thor told us there wasn’t one. Ours is under the drivers seat. Yes, you have to pull the whole seat out. There is a thin wire you need to disconnect. It connects airbags and seatbelts. Don’t damage it, it’s expensive! We found that the connection from the chassis battery to the EK1 (?) bridge was loose.

Ours does... but it's a one-way street: RV power doesn't charge the chassis battery.
