I just had a 30A installed for the same reason.

The electrician told me something to watch out for. The plugs look similar to dryer (240V) plugs. Over the years a few of his electricians (new hires) ran 240 to the outdoor plugs and blew up some campers when they were plugged in. So dont “assume” what campers take as common knowledge extends to everyone. Make sure the installer knows it is 110.

That's a nice-looking setup!
And you're right about the voltage mistakes... be aware of what they do!

30 amp service has and will always be 120v
50 amp service has and always will be 240v

The confusion you bringing attention to is miss wired 30 amp which takes a real stupid electrician or homeowner

I have used my welding plugs in the shop way back in the 30 amp days with a properly wired cord. Back then we didn't have a ground, just a negative.

50 amp RV is the same as a new welder, new stove, or whatever has proper 240v wiring. All codes now require the ground wire and there are millions of old 220v dryer with the three prong still in use which helps to confuse folks.

i keep my unit plugged in to a 15 amp outlet all the time with adapters. It keeps my house and chassis batteries charged. About once a week or so I run the ac for a few hours just to keep things dried out. About a day before a trip, I turn on the fridg, and load it up just before leaving.

you don't. 30 is more than enough. you only need a 20.

We did it also. Cost us about $700 in supplies. We now have 50 and 20 amp sockets.

I don't think those that say to get 50/30/20 service are saying that you "need a 50 amp outlet" when you only have a 30 amp coach. Rather if you could get the 50 amp service for $75 - $100 more why not? It is not a life altering decision, but I am amazed at the number of people who spend $100s of thousands on their RVs and thousands more yearly in storage costs; that given they are going to install a new service pedestal at home, they don't get the ability to also have 50 amps service?

If you ask me what do I need, I could say I only NEED a 15 amp service and I have a 50 amp coach. Same principle of a trip I plan when I figure to need $500; I may take $800

Advantages for a 1 time $100 incremental increased investment

1. Should you have a visitor that actually requires 50 amps; you have it
2. Should you ever buy another coach that has 50 amps service
3. Say for some reason your 30 amp or 50 amp receptacle on pedestal goes bad or does not work, you could switch to the other as a backup.
4. You may have visitor using the 50 amp service; while you use the 30 amp service at the same time.
5. You will never be that guy that who one day is pondering whether or not to rip out the 30 amp pedestal wiring, breaker, etc and put in a new 50/30/20 pedestal for 50 amp service.

But regardless, you should check with that infamous poster name Bob, he would say something like "what ever floats your goat" But just remember, if I am ever in New York, with my RV at your house, and hits 90 degrees, and you didn't buy the 50 amp service, I am gonna be pissed

1. No 50 amp built; could ever get down my driveway...
2. We are completely happy with our 30 amp Sprinter-based RV.
3. A 30 amp outlet (with a 20 amp one along side it): will power everything in my rig...
... or just keep the batteries charged.

D,
I'm pretty sure your generator will keep your twin a/c units happy and humming.

Ah I see, you are special case

I can't get up or down my mom's driveway either; so I run a heavy duty 100ft extension cord to my 50 amp dog bone and I am fine, but I switch the fridge to Propane. I do use the generator when both AC's are needed. But normally, my AGS will not allow my genset to run after 9:00 PM (Quiet time). So if the genset noise from 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM does not bother you and based on all of your other special exceptions; the $75 you save may be worth it

Nothing is ever absolute. Scuba is wise when he says to get 30amp or 50amp service, so you will be good either way. I just think that as long as the incremental cost is $100 or less; it would ALWAYS be my recommendation to go with 50amps. The type of Coach (Rig) you may or may not have is irrelevant. Remember you are talking to a person that installed his 50/30/20 service pedestal before even buying an RV

Nor do mine. It is actually not that loud (Microquiet) only about 60 decibels 10 feet away. I just preach that practice to primarily have a good social habit; so when I am in a RV Park; I am good steward. The irony though is thus far; every RV Park we have camped in has had 50 amp services

When we visit my in-laws up north we let the kids stay in the house and we just camp in the driveway. Our 50amp RV power down converts with the dog bone to a 20amp dedicated breaker in the garage via heavy duty extension cord.

We are able to run the fridge and one air conditioner no problem at the same time.

We plug into 30 amp service at home. Years ago, when we went from TT to MH I said, Enough! 30 amp service, water, a sewer clean out for dump, and a WiFi router were all installed. When friends or family come over and Mouch, they can Dock in La Tortuga II. I keep the fridge going 24/7 and the AC is set at 78. When it's time to go, I load the essentials, hook up the Dinghy, and leave. Ohh yeah, I grab the Wife also.
