Red face How to make electrical outlets work

Can anyone help me understand what the 110 on off switch does and what the inverter does? I had both on and the electrical outlets didn’t work. The TV and microwave worked. Layman’s terms please.

Since the microwave worked the 120 vac is getting into the RV.

My guess is that you have a GFI that is off. You will probably find one in the bathroom and there may be others. If that is not the problem, check the circuit breakers. I have no idea where they are in your RV but in mine they are under the bed.

If that is not the problem you will probably more help in trouble shooting the problem.

Good luck

I forgot about your other questions. I don't have a 110v switch so I cant help with that. The inverter converts the 12vdc to 120vac. It usually is only low power, insufficient to run the microwave, so if your microwave works I doubt the inverter is your problem.

I think that they intentionally limit the routing of 110 power from the inverter: they don't want anyone "biting off more than they can chew."
As long as you've got 110 power when you're plugged in, or the generator is running:

What's a "110 on off switch"? Never heard of one and although we have an ACE it is not your model.

The inverter converts battery power 12 volts to 110 volts to power only a few plugs. IN my coach it powers the outside kitchen plug (outside fridge) wall plug for living room tv, and dash plug for passenger. If you have the generator running or you are plugged in to campground power the inverter is needed and should be turned off

Not sure what a 110 switch is????? Do you mean use/store switch?????

Post a photo of it.

Our inverter doesn’t power the microwave in our Hurricane. Only the TVs and convenience outlets work (at desk area in bedroom and under front flip desk on dash.)

Here is another thought.

Maybe your 110v switch turns your inverter on. At the same time it disconnects the outlets, or at least some of them from the campground 110 VAC input.

Try the outlets with the RV plugged in and the 110V switch off.

??????

The only 110 switch we have is for the water heater (to switch between 110v and LP.)

Perhaps Doopiegirl could post a picture of said switch--it may clear up a lot of confusion.

I too am guessing the '110 on off' switch, is the use/store switch. The inverter will input 12 volts and output 120 volts to whatever outlets its wired to. In my case, my inverter will power several convenience outlets, the TV's and equipment for the satellite system, and the refrigerator. If your inverter is one of the newer Xantrex, when the generator is running, or you are plugged into shore power, it will automatically stop inverting and simply pass through the external 120 volt power. No need to ever shut it off, unless you want to. As far as the use/store switch, in use, its self explanatory, in store, at least in my case, it will kill all power to the interior of the coach, and disconnect the batteries from any charging circuits.

A couple of questions:

Were you connected to AC power?

By saying the microwave was working did you mean the light came on or did the microwave heat up when it was turned on?

Thanks Bob. I went to test it out in the RV Barn. All outlets work with shoreline and generator. My problem is I need at least one working bedroom outlet to with battery power only, to run a CPAP machine at night. We were camping without power and had the generator running just prior to going to bedtime and the carbon monoxide alarm went off. Needless to say we won’t chance running the generator during the night.

My mistake, I see now that is to run the water heater on 110v.

Check your CPAP power brick; the machine itself may only need 12 VDC so you may not need 110 VAC for it.

Same, here. I was mistaken. it doesn’t run the microwave at all on battery power.

I'm REALLY glad to hear that the confusion has been sorted out, and we're just down to finding some 110 power for a medical device.
Try calling Thor: I'm pretty sure that they could point you in the proper direction for this...
