Inexpensive or free camping spots

La Petacas Campground, near Taos, NM. Beautiful little campground along a small stream laid out in a single line. $3 a night for Golden Pass holders. Says 13 sites, but we only saw about 9. site #1 all the way left when you drive in is the best. We stayed here 4-5 days last summer and drove into Taos most days. Large free parking lot at the edge of Taos with an easy walk to town.

La Petacas #2. Sites were open all week, but the place filled up for the weekend early Friday afternoon. Info above from Allstays app.

Wolcott Campground on I-70 near Vail. Absolutely beautiful campground right on the Eagle River. An international trout fishing tournament was held two miles down the river last summer. Only 6 sites but we were there for a week over Labor Day and there was a site open every night. The site we stayed in you could cast into the river from the door of your RV. No water or dump station, but two exits down I-70 towards Vail there was a free dump station and water at a rest stop just off the highway. Good free parking there for a short walk to shopping and restaurants. Lots to do at multiple ski areas and mountain towns. Cost us $28 for the week. Abandoned RR track runs right by the campground. Great hiking for as many miles as you want to walk.

Curecanti National Recreation Area. 16 miles east of Gunnison, Colorado on a beautiful reservoir. We splurged on this one $8 per night with a Golden Pass for non-electric. Lots to do in the area. Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP is several hours west and has a campground of its own.

We recently stayed at pine mountain rv resort in GA. Very nice, and close to the African safari, which we will visit on our next trip.
