Insurance

I have a 2017 Challenger and I have Auto Owners insurance.
I have 2 homes and 5 autos on this policy not counting the MH.
Excellent credit, no tickets....$1785. A yr. for my coach alone
why do I feel I'm getting hosed ?
Any of you have a company that you consider reasonably priced and a good company ?

sounds very high, I pay 630 a year with Progressive saying a only drive it 5000 miles a year and do not live in it full time.

Insurance

We were with Progressive for 15 years with our previous motorhome and then signed up with Camping World's Good Sam insurance when we purchased the Freedom Elite. The premium went up after the first year and the second year they wanted to charge me $55 for changing my mailing address when it did not have any effect at all on "garaging" or any matter related to the policy - just wanted our insurance related mail sent to a post office box and they were insistent about charging us.

We went back to Progressive for our motorhome policy - it is reasonable and they don't charge extra for silly stuff.

I also have road side assistance added with progressive and i must say it came in very handy and easy. had to be towed off I-10 and progressive took care of everything.

I agree - roadside assistance is a must even for the folks (like Mr. Homer) that are very handy in the garage. A large and heavy vehicle needs expert equipment for safety purposes. Changing a tire on a dually after a blow out is not an experience any of us needs or wants!

Insurance companies will use their pricing, to encourage the business that they want, and discourage those that they don't...
I've got my house, car, motorcycle, motorhome, and umbrella with Safeco.
They're not the cheapest; but they've always handled claims in a reasonably fair manner.
(And THAT'S what really matters!!!! )
Call your agent, and have your book of business shopped around a bit: good luck!

39 years in the business of selling insurance...

Hard to compare across state lines... but I lived in Michigan for 20 years.
Michigan - being a 'no fault' state, and large claim award history will be more expensive than many others (but not all... Florida still wins for higher rates...)

You do need to shop around - I had everything with one company before I bought the MH... By their own admission it wasn't a specialty of theirs - and showed in their pricing - so I have always had a different policy for that.

You are a bit higher than I was in Michigan - but your coach is 3 years newer and priced higher than my Hurricane... Assuming you are carrying prudent liability and collision limits - it gets expensive.
I wouldn't want to see your registration charge...

My insurance is currently spread across too many companies - will take me a while to consolidate again... but the move to Florida really made things interesting. Finding one that will insure the house, cars, RV, and umbrella - at ANY price was a challenge. (was always at least one item they wouldn't even write a policy for.) Then comparing terms needed a scorecard... often the quote for lower premium didn't cover - or limited coverage in other area - or wouldn't provide replacement coverage - etc...

Almost time for me to start looking again...

39 years of selling insurance! Is that where you got your great sense of humor?
I did notice that "rick" lives in Mich. I was surprised to see that Florida has hi rates. I should shop around, but; my agent stuck with me through the years, putting 5 teenagers on the road.

I've got all of the scars to prove it...
But the most FUN part? The Missus has worked here with me for 30 of those years!
(If you see me in the front yard: run over me! It'd be a mercy killing!)

What ius the insured value of your rig?
Is it insured for actual cash value; or are you insuring it under an agreed value policy?
How about your liability and physical damage limits and deductibles?? Do you have any room there for making changes?

I'll need to pull out the bills and compare - homeowners went up the most with the move... but as another 'no fault' state - and with a large number of uninsured/underinsured drivers on the road, not a cheap one either...

I don't skimp on liability limits - something helping me right now after being rear-ended by an underinsured driver this summer.. my policy is picking up with its UI coverage when the at fault drivers minimal coverage policy is exhausted...

Try Farm and City Ins. in Forest City, IA and do RV's a lot since they are close to the mfg.
800-331-1520
They are with Nationwide.

Mine is $768 this year, but they pay full replacement on coach. i.e. if mine was totaled, they would buy me a 2018. This is something they did this year as premium was increased over last year.

Rick,
Is your motorhome covered under your auto policy; or under a separate motorhome policy?
The rates for the latter are usually a significant amount less!
(In my case: it was over a 65% savings...)

RV Coverage

Paying just over $1200 a year with GEICO auto insurance. I have roadside RV coverage with my AAA account. We pay more for everything in CA.

Do you have coverage for RVs (and motorcycles) on your AAA policy?
A lot of Spyder riders got burned: they had to add coverage for RVs; to make sure that they were covered...
