Insurance quote without VIN ?
I was trying to get a quote on insurance and my insurance agent told me he can't give me a quote unless I have a VIN number. Why do you need a VIN number to get an insurance quote?

After its decoded the VIN gives the agent all the information about your coach, size, model weight, etc, plus some agents are very careful and check to see if a vehicle is stolen. Your VIN identifies your specific vehicle and no other!

I see. Does the VIN number tell you when your coach was built?

There will actually be two VINs, one for the chassis and one for the coach. Most generally the chassis will be one year older than the coach. 2017 Thor Axis, 2016 Ford chassis.
If you have a chassis number you can look up the codes on the internet.

as an agent for over two decades, I can tell you that nowadays it's easier to allow the insurance company's website to decipher the exact yr, make, model, and submodel of vehicles versus asking to customer to provide it - sometimes the customer themselves aren't really sure what they have, ESPECIALLY when it comes to different varieties of RVs, Motorcycles, and ATVS... there are just too many different floor plans, variables, extras, submodels, add-ons, etc....
but, I've NEVER heard of any company or insurance agency needing the VIN in order to check if it is stolen... why would they care?

I have no doubt that agents are different. Two agents that are close friends of mine said they always check, to many stolen vehicles for sale. They did this as a service to their customers to keep them from getting burned. Always thought that they had excellent customer service, protecting their customers, which is probably why their agencies were so big.
