...this reminds me of Google Maps and how it's 'different' on the iPhone versus the Laptop/Desktop version.
You can easily change or customize a route on the Laptop, moving the route to a different road or travel lane that might make more sense for your type of travel, less turns, a road more familiar, etc., versus the typical 'shortest route possible' scenario that is normally rendered.
But, on the iPhone, you can't. You are basically stuck with whatever choice of route, or routes, that it gives you, but no way to 'customize' the route.... frustrating.
And, even MORE frustrating, when you find the optimum route, customized, on your Laptop, and you use the 'SHARE' feature to either text or email it to your iPhone, thinking you've 'licked' the system, the rendering on your iPhone STILL defaults back to the 'normal' Google routes - your customized route disappears. UUUGGGHHHH!!!
