I have a 24 ft thor freedom elite Mercedes SprinterI Diesel. I get 14.5 to 15mpg at a steady 55mph. About 12mpg st 70mph. Not sure about your specific model and Chasis . Ease of driving is great. Drove through Brooklyn and Queens no problem and even got lucky parking on the street. Took two curb side spots. When slide opens, plenty of room to move around and cook, hangout etc...

The Sprinters do start running out of breath above 60 mph...

I can easily do 80-90mph on a flat road with mine. Have you ever driven one?

South Dakota on I-80 has an 80 mph speed limit and my Axis would run 80+ for hours. Of course, you could watch the gas gauge go down, but gas is cheap.

I have no problem at 70 if the conditions are safe .Mine is a 2018 and no struggle to go above 70, just not my choice to speed with a RV. Engine shows no signs s of weakness even at 80.

We bought a Vegas 25.2 in December, but due to the Corona stuff we have not been able to use it yet. We did drive it to the coast (128 miles each way) just to see how it handled on the road. I got about 8 mpg down and back to the coast. I handled great on the highway, and was fairly comfortable (but noisy) at 70 on th highway. We are really looking forward to out first real camping trip.

Rig mpg
I’ve been out here some 30 years Rving and I’m here to tell y’all that if your evaluating a rig because of the MPG there is a good chance you can’t afford to RV. If the performance, living conditions and storage fits you needs don’t let MPG influence your purchase.
I done that once and bought a diesel rig about two months before gas started to be cheaper that diesel. Smart move. (Don’t get me started on the bottom line on the debate of cost of gas or diesel rigs.)
I’ve had P/U, Bob trucks, Class A’s, Class C’s, and believe me around the campfire at night the talk of MPG was always irrelevant compared to enjoying the RV life style.

Fuel economy can also be personal
I’m not an environmentalist, but I love and respect nature, and everything else being equal, I want to have the least adverse affect on the environment, within reason. Please understand that if you’re getting 4 MPG that I don’t care nor am I saying you don’t love the environment. It’s a 100% personal feeling.
One of the main reasons I traded a small Class C for a van was that I hated getting 8 MPG in a unit I didn’t need the size or appreciate the room; mainly because I was using it more for touring than camping, and the extra size was often a pain. Fuel cost was not really much of a factor.
I would like a bit more room now, but not if it means 8 MPG again. That’s not happening at all for us. A middle ground around 12 MPG on gas I could be happy with knowing that I at least tried. It’s not logical, just feels right. And cost has very little to do with it.

Ditto for me towing a Jeep Liberty!

There’s plenty of roads in the US where the speed limit is 75-80. Some where there is no speed limit. I’m not saying I drive 80 mph all the time but your original post said 55 then changed to 60 and is unclear. What do you mean runs out of breath? You’re implying no power. What does what it “likes to do” mean? Handling, noise, brakes in an emergency. Do you have the old 4 cylinder version?

Mpg
MPG stories are like fishing stories. The variables involved in measuring mpg are numerous. Wind speed, elevation change, elevation, vehicle speed, traffic conditions, temperature, accuracy of operator measurements are all a factor and unless you consider them your results will be inaccurate.

bad gas mileage.
My 2020 Thor Daybreak 22GOC [Chevy 6.0L] only gets 7.5 to 8.2 mph on trips @ 62-65mph. Two different dealers [before I bought it] told me I should get 10-12mph. So far, I have 2100miles on it.
Any suggestions for better mileage?
[Don't tell me that if I need to worry about mileage I don't need a Class C. Most of my trips are one to two day trips to swim meets. I use the camper in order to transport our two dogs along with the five of us.]

We love our 2018 Axis
Mileage is around 10-11. We do not pull a car.
Have only had it 18 months but have put 17,000 miles on it.
Good luck with whatever you choose

Jim, I can only speculate since you mentioned dogs and swim meets — been there when children were young.
If you run the generator to power the air conditioner for the dogs or yourself, it will use gasoline that will reduce the typical MPG calculations. It doesn’t take much A/C time to go through gallons of fuel.
Just a thought. Beyond that, I’d expect higher MPG based on reports from other small Class Cs with Chevy 6.0L V8.

Whether you buy a 22 foot or a 29 foot the height the same. Consider resale value. If I was purchasing 30 foot would be the smallest I would purchase.
Consider storage inside and out.
Comfort is king when camping and traveling

2016 24.1 Axis 9-10.5 MPG. 60-85 mph on our trip last week was 9.5 lots of hills. Last summer climbed lots of Mountains in BC Canada NO one passed us 9.0-10.5MPG. ours is a US unit so MPG is our measure. Inspection station weight Front axle 4950lbs Rear 7900lbs
Rick
p.s. we love our Axis, lots of minor maintenance Canadian north roads are ROUGH at 80 mph

Thanks for the reply.
I have not been using the generator while traveling. Generator use is not a player.
I would expect better from the 6.0L Chevy.

I tried, then tried again.
I don't know what any of this means.

A 6.0 is notorious across the gm spectrum of cars and Trucks for its very bad comparative fuel mileage.
A 5.3 gets the mileage you were told to expect on a 6.0.
A 6.0 gets what you're getting for fuel mileage.
