Level or Slide Out First?

Would you auto level first and then extend the slide out, or slide out first and then level?
2017 Ace 30.2 full drivers side slide out.

Thanks in advance for your answers

Jerry

Answers

1) do not move the RV when any slide is extended.
2) Level only when all slides are not extended.

These are very clear instructions in the owners manual.

We level first, hook up water and electricity. The last thing is slide out. We have a 2017 29.3.

Same here on th hook ups.
Don't have to deal with the slide out in the way getting to those compartments.

For what it's worth, on another thread, someone explained how the system operates, and they explained how they do it in manual mode.
I tried it that way, and kind of like it better, so I am doing ours in manual from now on.

Pull/Back in, do a walk around to make sure you are where you want to be, while the engine is still running drop the jacks either auto or manual (doesn't matter) then shut off engine.
Now do all hook ups, starting with electrical. NOW extend slides. You're done.

Yep, to do the slides first you have to turn off the engine, then you have to restart the engine to level. With advice like that from "lots of people" i'd find some new people to get advice from.

Tell them they can do it their way; you'll do it the right way.

I guess that I have a question: Has anybody ever taken the time to check how "level" their rig is: after they've deployed the slides? In theory: shouldn't it be better to have all of the parts sitting where you plan to have them first?
(Just wondering if it makes a difference...)

Bob, it does make a slight difference. After I deploy the slides the the coach is slightly off level to the driver's side. One time I corrected after slides were out and I had a terrible time getting the toilet to flow properly. I've learned after that to level as the manual says, then deploy. The slight off level isn't noticeable without a level and it helps with the toilet and even AC runoff.

Just my observation.

Our slide is on the passenger side and the head of our bed is as well. I always manually level a little high on that side not so much for the weight of the slide altering level as to raise the head of the bed slightly.

You don't have to have the camper perfectly level, but if my slide was already out and I wanted to adjust the level I would have no problem staring the engine and tweaking it manually.

I have found that I have to occasionally repeat the leveling process to allow me to get my "super slide" back in and to eliminate water leaking into my rig along the Schwintek rails on the ends of the slide.
I think that one or more of my leveling cylinders bleeds off over a few weeks. I have found that staying in one place too long is not good best to pack up and move every couple weeks. The DW is not happy.

It's tougher for relatives to visit a moving target...

Level first, then slides out. Before you level make sure you positioned so you have room for your slides to extend out.

the reality is: your coach doesn't care

we do it either way, or a combination of both, depending on the situation...

Have you checked your hydraulic reservoir lately? I was having issues with getting the back leveler to touch if I was on an un-even site.

I noticed the reservoir wasn't where it needed to be - (1/2 inch from top when levelers are up), so I added the needed Auto Transmission Fluid fluid. Seems to help.

If you do add fluid, make sure your levelers are up before adding to avoid an over-fill situation.

Level First

You need to level first and then after all of the hook ups are complete slide the slide(s) out. It makes it easier on the slide motors if the motor home is first level. If the MH is not level first, you risk damaging the slide motors and/or the tracks they ride on.
