At risk of hijacking the thread...my owners manual (SOB) very clearly says to extend the slides before leveling. My dealer couldn’t explain why (then again, he said the water filter was the pump so there’s that). This seems utterly counter intuitive and is opposite to what I’ve always done. How do you all sequence the leveling process?
You not hijacking thread because I started it to understand best levelers to use; as I think in a few odd cases, I will need levelers; so that I may extends my slide.

From what I was told during my PDI last November for a 2019 Winnebago with full wall slide this is what I know.

1. You are suppose to level before extended slide
2. To level, Engine is running and Emergency Brake must be set
3. When level I get green light on Leveler Control Pad indicated finished, and the Coach is beeping like crazy because Engine is still running. I also have a Red light above steering column that lights up as soon as the Jacks go down.
4. At this point options kick in
Opt A. Leave Engine running - Extend slide (have to hit extend button twice)
Opt B. Turn Engine off but leave key in the ignition / accessory position - Extend Slide
Opt C. Turn Engine off and go connect to shore power, put key in ignition / accessory position - Extend Slide
5. After Slide is fully extended, Restart engine and turn on Leveler Pad and repeat the leveling process. Note I have done this about 3 times and I don't detect any movement on re-leveling after slide out. The PDI guy said to level twice to be sure, but I will likely stop try to do this step

Wow. Never heard that “level a second time” thought before. I believe I’d give it up as well.

It has taken me decades to learn to follow directions instead of my own flawed thought processes and maybe I haven’t learned it even yet since I think I’m going to continue to level before extending slides unless or until someone can give me a reason to do it the other way. It just seems to me like leveling will take any twist from out of the coach and keep the slides from having to extend uphill. I have asked on my SOB forum and had zero response.

It was the PDI Specialist that said to do it the 2nd time. The manual does not say it specifically but they do say to ensure that Slide is level as a procedure before retracting. One could assume that it was level before they extended so it should remain level, but theoretically something could shift? Maybe that is what the guy was saying to me. But thus far; everytime I tried to level 2nd time after slide was out, nothing happened.

This is direct from Winnebago 2019 29VE Manual

SLIDEOUT ROOM LOCK
SYSTEM

The ignition key must be placed in the on or
run position to operate the slideout room(s). The
park brake must be applied for the room(s) to run.
Winnebago recommends running the engine
whenever you run the slideout rooms in or out,
the engine alternator should insure the rooms
have adequate 12-volt DC power to operate
correctly.

NOTE: We recommend that you KEEP THE
ENGINE RUNNING WHILE
EXTENDING OR RETRACTING
SLIDEOUT ROOMS so the engine
alternator can provide maximum power
for proper operation of the slideout
mechanisms.

To Extend Slideout Room

Before Extending!
• Level the motorhome and set the Parking
Brake.
• Ensure exterior compartment doors are closed
so that they will not interfere with slideout
operation.
• Ensure driver and co-pilot seat backs are clear
of slideout trim before extending slideout.
• Check inside and outside the vehicle to make
sure that there are no people who could be
harmed or obstacles that could cause damage
due to room extension.
• If the slideout room has a couch or other
furniture, make sure no people or pets are
seated on them until the room has been fully
extended.

Extend Procedure:

See “Before Extending!” before proceeding.
• Engage the parking brake.
• Start the engine so the alternator can provide
maximum power for proper operation of
slideout mechanisms.
• Press the Slideout Room “EXTEND/OUT”
switch and hold until the room is fully
extended, then release the switch.
• To stop extending the room during operation,
release the button.
• Remove and Secure the Ignition Key.

To Retract Slideout Room
Before Retracting!
Be sure the motorhome is level and the
Parking Brake is set.

• Ensure exterior compartment doors are closed
so that they will not interfere with slideout
operation.
• Ensure driver and co-pilot seat backs are clear
of slideout trim before retracting slideout.
• Check inside and outside the vehicle to make
sure that there are no people who could be
harmed or obstacles that could cause damage
due to room retraction.
• Stow all furniture extensions before retracting
slideout rooms to avoid property damage.
• If the slideout room has a couch or other
furniture, make sure no people or pets are
seated on them until the room has been fully
retracted.
• Remove all items from the motorhome living
room floor and close cabinet doors and
drawers. Be sure there are no items at the end
of the bed, behind the driver seat, or
protruding from compartments, which could
be crushed or cause damage to floor covering
or cabinets when the room is retracted.

Retract Procedure:

See “Before Retracting!” before proceeding.
• Engage the parking brake.
• Start the engine so the alternator can provide
maximum power for proper operation of
slideout mechanisms.
• Press the Slideout Room “RETRACT/IN”
switch and hold until the room is fully
retracted, then release the switch.
• To stop retracting the room during operation,
release the button.
• After the room is retracted, Remove and
Secure the Ignition Key.

Just so you know. Today I went to Lowes and bought two 2x10x8' long boards. I don't want to fool with gluing anything.

My plan for one board.

Cut six pieces at 10" long and two pieces at 18" long (total 96" or 8')

This will give me 4 pads at about 91/2"x10" or 2 blocks from front wheels.

I will also have two blocks for the rear Dual wheels

For the 2nd 2x10x8' long board; I have a 17ft multi task ladder. I can convert to a trestle and use the 8' board as scaffold to help clean the RV. I was going to get 12" wide board but it was awfully heavy. I may to back to get a 12" wide board but it is also 12' long. I can cut off 4' to maker it 8' long by 12" but it is heavy. Not sure the 2" for the trestle will make that much difference?

i used good wood glue to make them bond, and then some deck screws to hold them until glue sets. nothing fancy they are disposable sort of

and the reason they are doubled up because a flat plank of 2x 12 or the like will split like an orange when load is applied. bonding them 90 degrees off the grain of wood gives them some resistance to split

they do take a beating

and yes if you a lippert leveling system its best to do the calibration reset about twice a year, weird stuff causes it to loose or forget.
plus you can do a perfect level and have the coach as low as possible and it will save it.

each coach builder has their own set of rules for leveling and if slides are in or out.
mine the slides stay in until leveled, then we open up.

reverse procedure when we get ready to leave

plus if slides are in, it makes it easier for me to place blocks under jack pads and not bump head on slide edges

I have the fasten duel tires, two sets, right left, along with snap pads. I wouldn't change a thing and would do it again. when parked at home my rear tires, all four will be almost 4 inches off the ground to be level. In heavy winds or storms you can watch it rocking to the rhythm of the rain, sorry couldn't let that slip by. so I use the under the rear tires and wood which stays, I never take on the road under the jacks with the snap pads. No we have been to a few sites that have been grassy, muddy or a mixture of both, snap pads are a nice saver from having to get down on my knees to put something under the jacks or to just watch the jacks go six inches under ground. Yeah I would do this again in a heartbeat.

Hum

I agree on the 2x10 pieces. I have a 7250 lb. Jayco Whitehawk TT and went to Lowe’s and picked a 10 ft piece of treated 2x10 and had 5 2ft. Pieces cut and use for under wheels if needed and also under front jack always and side jacks if necessary. I have not had to use all 5 yet! I had plastic leveling blocks from previous motor home use but they are not as convenient as the 2x10 pieces! I carried both since I had room but will not again!

We carry a set of 10 2x2 yellow leveling blocks. We don't use them at most sites but a year ago we had to set up at a very sloped site and even with our our rear wheels off the ground we were a good bit low in the rear. We only use them under the low tires when backing in if we judge the site to be way off level. We do not use them under the jacks. In answer to the slide question we always level up, then run the slides on our class A.

FWIW, if I have a site where the back is seriously lower than the front I’ll sometimes go in frontwards. It’s easier and safer to raise the front. Of course this sometimes requires a 30A extension cord and a second length of hose. Stuff I always carry for this very reason.

We are interested in buy the lego blocks. How many sets for the E450 chassis would be typically enough? 1 set for the front and 1 for the rear?

I have 2 sets of the larger Yellow Dually Block and 2 sets of the single Yellow blocks. Before I have my Big Foot Levelers I used ALL of them one or twice a year on unlevel stone camping spots.

I still carrier them (I have plenty of room) because I learned sometimes i need them as stepping stones aroud my camp site (Esp in front of the water connections), under my outdoor plastic table, and by the RV outdoor shower so I can wash my shoe / feet/ Mtn bike. Plus they are easier to me to wash and dry blocks before you leave the side when compared to wood.

I always use the larger Dually blocks under my jacks (2 or 3 - one is too think so they deform) now they dont dig into the pavement or stones. Plactic blocks grip the stones better since they can go inside of the block compared to the Jack Pads.

What I find is instead of jacking my front end up 5 or 6 inches I use like 4 or 5 dually blocks (nice and wide for stability) and then deploy my Big Foot for only an inch or two to level. RV dont shake as much IMO when lifted (since they are not extended very far). Plus I think its safer.

I will use some anti skid mats (like you used in your cabinets) cut to fit pad.... so the dont slide on the blocks at all. Also have those Campco topper plates that make the blocks nice and flat under the jack pads.

Another view. One side I used more blocks since it was more out of level. So I only deploy jacks about the same about on each side.

Well It all depends on the camp grounds you tend to visit. About half of mine are unlevel stone sites. May members stay at level paved spots 99% of the time and never need any (or one set will do them).

You might start with one of each size and add more as needed. Thats what I did.

Plus my driveway is very unlevel and I purchased enough to level as needed (when needed).

We used the lego blocks this weekend. The site was flat and only needed one block under each front tire according to my 2 foot level in each direction. I then installed the level mate and calibrated it.
