What to do in a raging ice storm with no power?

Woke up to no power, a lot of the city has no power.

So you go get the RV with the backup power, and furnace, and kitchen (I envy those who store the RV at home).

We are fortunate to be able to keep our RV at home. We brought it home from our beach spot last September before hurricane Irma. It was our "home" next to our house for the 7 days we were without power afterwards. Hot showers, A/C, and the ability to cook meals is a great respite from the work of cleaning up after a storm.

Yup! It never hurts to have a backup plan...

Mother Nature has sure been a vindictive witch this year; hasn't she?

Well mother nature: 1, RV: 0.
Ran extension cord from RV to basement in an attempt to get sump pump running...nope. Ext cord too long or there is too much water--there is no way cord stays dry. Basement doesnt...

Sigh

Too Much Winter this Year

We feel your pain.. up here in Highland, Michigan. Just finished up installing the Hellwigs, (Front and Rear) and Sumos (front). We were getting our Vegas ready for a trip to Bill Brown in the morning for the warranty alignment. MH is now Iced Over!!

Praying that Mother Nature will cooperate the ice melts overnight, roads are better in the am.

Warranty alignment... when I bought mine the dealer wanted to charge me 200 for mine. The repair shop stated to me it wasn't part of the warranty, but I sent it anyway and Thor sent me a check (also for the wiper recall too). I still got to do the CHF, the weight, install a TPMS and a spare tire with a rim. Oh yeah, got to buy a dual hitch to carry the spare cause Windsport doesn't have a bumper and the space under the back of the RV is too small, along with the gen exhaust pipe being there too. The things we do just to keep from being bored at home.

What are those things that you put under the 'stinky slinky' so it doesn't lay on the ground? Forgot got what they're called but it might help. About 8 years ago we had a total blackout in our town for two weeks and we used the fireplace, then Coleman lanterns, a generator and a propane stove to keep warm. Every year from then on I made sure we had enough to get by. Oh yeah we got an RV now too.

Heading to Sturges Mi. Ford dealer wants the coach for a week to work on this. Getting an alignment while there. Forecast is for snow and low 20s. Coach is not winterized. I will show them how, but; Hoping that if they leave it outside, they run the furnace.

Hope they get your power on soon Jamie, and you can dry out your basement. Nice that you have the RV to give some comfort.

Yeah, got one of those too but at 5k watts and the refers, microwave and coffee maker at 1kw each... Got a propane heater for heat and the house uses gas for the water. Zip tied 4 extension cords together for power, etc. Lessons learned the hard way you don't forget.

You must have some serious appliances, as we have a total electric home, and it gets way below zero here, we have never topped 5K watts.

Still no power this morning, but it did stop raining so the basement dried up a bit. Have to get gas and propane in the RV.

That storm stretched out from the UP clear down to the panhandle. We are about 25 miles from Mobile and the area lost power, including the CG, when the storm hit.

Our house battery bank will keep everything going for up to 48 hours so we just finished watching our TV shows and then went to bed.
