Looking to upgrade our motorhome

We are looking to upgrade into the diesel class and was just wondering who if any would stay with Thor?
We are starting to look and the Fleetwood Discovery's, they are looking pretty good.
Oh and ours is now up for sell if any one is interested.

Love our Challenger but I doubt very seriously that I'd stick with Thor on a DP. Those Entegras are sweeeet...[emoji39]

Great question, we are in same position, albeit early in the research phase. A lot of variables in finding the right DP, starting with price range. But for your question, I'd like to buy our next coach from a company that not only wants me to buy my first coach from them, but also the next and the next after that. After 28,000 miles and experiences owning the Axis I am inclined to buy our next motorhome from either Newmar or Tiffin. The Tiffin Allegro RED or Newmar Ventana is in the lead at the moment. I'd like to stress that I'm not looking for or expecting perfection.

I'm a member in both Newmar and Tiffin forums, I probably over research The Comfort Drive from Newmar seems like a huge hit from those who have experienced it. Overall satisfaction from both Tiffin and Newmar DP owners seems high, though bug fixes and issues requiring attention are also common place.

I know someone who recently went with a Newmar Ventana. They went to Lazy Days in Florida from Missouri to make the purchase and are extremely satisfied with their move to a competitive brand.

Does this happen a lot?

We JUST bought our Class-C Outlaw, and have already been tempted into "peeking over the fence" at the Class-A models.

Do you buy your first one, and THEN realize what you should have bought?

the Discovery LXE line is excellent... I would buy one in a heartbeat, as I've delivered these new to dealers - a 40' to PortStLucie FL and a 44H' tag axle to Tampa, both drove very nice and the interior appointments are worth the money. The Fleetwood Pace Arrow(formerly Excursion) is also a 'twin' to the Thor Palazzo line and the Forest River Legacy DP line. The Pace Arrow is also a nice coach.

some models to look at:
Thor Palazzo, Aria
FR Legacy, Berkshire
Fleetwood PaceArrow, Discovery LXE
Newmar Ventana
FR Coachmen SportsCoach

the 'compact' diesels - Palazzo, Legacy, and PaceArrow, all will net about 10-12 mpg, and are set on the XCS chassis for a low and smooth ride with the Cummins isb6.7L engines (the Palazzo and Legacy only require a single simple entry step, but the PaceArrow has more basement storage).

Bob,
Your comment alone shows that it is true. We have had our Axis for two years and we do look. Right now and for the near future (knock on wood) we plan on leaving it at just looking.

We did that for a while when we first started with RVs: Within the first 4 years of camping we went through 2 TT's and finally a 5th wheel.

We held onto the 5er for 10+ years, however, once we found something we liked. We like the Axis a lot so I don't think we'ere in upgrade mode yet (although Thor does keep making new Axis/Vegas floorplans so you never know--we don't want to get into anything bigger than an E-Series platform).

We're doomed to a life of prowling around the Dealer's coaches...

For us, it all came down to storage and floor plan. I really went to the dealer to purchase a Discovery 40X. But after driving both, and several others including a Phaeton, we bought the Aria. And although we have gone through a bit of debugging, I am quite happy with our decision. Although I would like to have the Discovery's larger engine, I felt driving the Aria was more comfortable and a little quieter (wind noise). After a shaky start our dealer has done an impressive job, and I believe Thor has absolutely done everything to make us happy campers.

We owned a 1986 American by Cobra, 2016 retired and bought a FourWinds 22E. One year later a 2017 Axis 25.2. Will soon take possession of a 2018 Hurricane 34J. I hope that the third time is the charm.

Thanks Bob, but this is our 3rd MH. Over 20 years I hope we have figured out what we want and need. This is our first DP and first Thor. I don't think any other builder packs as much into a coach for the $.

Yup Indeed!
Your 1st one is based on what you "think" You want and need...the 2nd is based on what you did not like on the first one..

Your results may vary

It happened to us. In August 2016 bought a class C 29FE then in January 2017 bought a class A 35M. We are much happier with the Class A.

We recently went through the process of trading up from our 2014 37GT Challenger to a DP. Our search included most brands, from 2 or 3 year old units to some new 2017 models.

Based on some interior features and floorplans we had it narrowed down to a Tuscany, Entegra, Tiffin, and Newmar.

Further research and some test drives we zeroed in on Newmar. That is not to say any of the other brands are not producing decent coaches, but once you experience the comfort drive system it is hard not to purchase one.

The best way for me to describe it is like gliding down the road in your Grandpa's old Fleetwood Cady......smooth and effortless to drive in all conditions.

Same here. We bought a 26 ft Freedom Elite Class C in January 2016 and 8000 miles later in August 2016 we traded it for a new 29 ft Class A Winnebago Vista. Not very cost effective but we are very pleased with the upgrade
