Loss of electrical power

I recently had my Thor 24.1 plugged in at a campsite for about three weeks. Note that the coach battery is only one year old. When I went to break camp yesterday morning closed everything down except the slide. Unplugged, and went to start the motorhome. Absolutely nothing. When I am plugged in all the coach power was working. Note that the coach battery he’s only one year old. I tried using the crossover switch on the dashboard with no luck whatsoever. Finally I pulled the car alongside the door and jumped the house batteries. I’d let that run for A couple of minutes and then successfully started the Ford chassis. This happened once before. I was able then to start the generator and let everything charge up I drove home without further issue. I can’t figure out what is draining the batteries if the rig is plugged in. Any thoughts?

When you were plugged in was the USE/STORE switch in USE. If you left it in store the RV would be using power from the converter -- but the converter would not be charging the batteries.

If it was in USE did it make that characteristic "clunk" when the latching relay changed state. You might have an intermittent latching relay.

There is a switch with a red light next to the steps coming in the motorhome. This seems to be a disconnect switch for the house end of the motorhome. Is this the switch you were talking about? If not where is that switch located?

While we’re at it, the only place I have found to hook up jumper cables to the coach battery is a small positive connection near the passenger headlight behind the grill and then trying to find a ground screw in the frame. Is there a better spot?

Yes, that is the switch that disconnects the house batteries from the house DC buss including the converter/charger. The red light will be lit even if the disconnect is open if plugged into SP, it is not a disconnect status light, it is a DC buss power light.

Then how can I tell if the disconnect is open or closed? Also if the batteries were connected what drained the coach battery? Shouldn’t that be on a separate circuit?

What year is your 24.1?
There have been changes in recent years.

You say “coach battery”
Is that the Ford “chassis” battery?
Or
The two 12v “house” batteries under the steps?

All 3 batteries are connected in the engine compartment with a special solenoid switch (varies based on year).

I call the Ford truck battery the coach battery and the two batteries under the step the house batteries. In this case all three were drained

Disconnect from SP. If the light stays on the disconnect is closed (assuming the battery is charged). If the light goes out, it is open.

So two house batteries are original?
Chassis battery has been replaced, 1 yr ago?

It appears that your BIM isn’t working.
The BIM connects the 3 batteries together so that when plugged into shore power the chassis battery gets charged & topped-off.

I believe that the BIM is also responsible for the “crossover switch” as you put it.

Someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
