Michelin vs Continental

I have heard from a long time RVer (20+ years) that a Michelin Tire for motorhomes last 6 years and easily cracks on sidewalls. He said he uses Continental truck tires which lasts 10 years and also the MH will not sway side to side when an 18 wheeler passes beside you. What are your thoughts on this. I will be due for new tires in a year or two, and with a cost factor ($400 vs $100) would make a big savings. I have a Four Winds 23U with Michelin 2014. Thank you.

Our 2014 Axis came with Michelin. We had to replace them this year--I was planning on replacing them this off-season but ended up having to replace them early.

Since we were on vacation I had little choice for the replacement tire--basically whatever the tire shop had.

Keep an eye on them.

You are showing whatever the tire shop had which I believe would be truck tires or your old Michelin?
You are scaring me now trying to get Continental Truck tirés if the wear and tear is that bad after a year usage....

Do a search on this forum for 17.5" wheel conversion on class c. Gentleman late in thread went with commercial tire more reasonable than Michelin with high weight rating.

I have the Continentals and very pleased with them. Side walls seem very stiff and the ride is great. Only 6K miles so far but would buy them again if something happened. Never been a fan of Michelin truck tires. Jamie's tires were 4 years old and to me, that's about the life expectancy of any tires on a MH.

I misunderstood because of the last comment of keep an eye on them, then I assumed it was the picture of the truck tires. Of course if it is the Michelin, I understand that they are not so reliable, Tire walls crack easily since they are softer then a truck tire. Thanks again Gritz

my michelins looked like that...well only the outer ones
and I had a blowout while the tires were still wee little babies....low in both mileage and age.
My replacements are yokohamas
mainly because they were the best of what was available at the time.

As far as ride and movement, I can't imagine that tires of equal load rating and a roughly equal quality level would be any different really in terms of handling passing trucks.

visit tirerack.com for some great specs and reviews of tires.... & i suppose good pricing too...you can learn which offer low road noise, nice ride, traction, etc...

The 23U is a small and light motorhome, and shouldn’t require “truck” tires unless we’re talking about pickup trucks.

My previous Michelins lasted almost 100,000 miles and a lot longer than 5 years; mostly highway driving and NOT overloaded. The key for me is that my tires run no more than about 60% of rated capacity.
