Unhappy Garmin 760 LMT GPS

Bought this Garmin gps after much research and many positive reviews but I'm finding it to be a bear to use the trip planning program. Has anyone else had similar experiences with it or should I put on the dunce cap and start over?

They all seem "iffy"

Thanks for your Service! I'd ask similar questions. The reviews seem mixed on all the GPS units for RV. Does anyone have a recommendation?

I have a Garmin but don't use the trip planning, just put in my next destination.

Same here. Bought the 760 since it had the power and camera connections in the base and makes a GREAT camera monitor for the backup camera...

Basecamp

For most Garmins, you can plan your route in their PC (and Mac) software called BaseCamp, then load it into the dashtop unit. It is free BTW. I've used lots of Garmins and other GPS units and never had much success planning routes directly in the unit. Beware that BaseCamp has a bit of a learning curve.

I've used ours for a couple of trips over several days. I generally just program each particular days travel one day at a time.
Since it stores the addresses I just go back to the ones I need as I need them .

I plan all trips in Mapsource. This works great with the older Nuvi's but is a bit of a pain for the newer ones as you have to import the routs into Base Camp.
Base Camp really sucks for route making since its intended more for the fitness crowd.
To use Base Camp open it up and delete all previous routes and waypoints before you connect the Nuvi. Delete previous routes and wapoints in the Nuvi before connection to your computer. For our 2495 we can only load routes and waypoints to Nuvi itself note the SD chip we have the latest map set update on.

Mapsource like Base Camp is free from Garmin.

Our trip planning pretty much consists of a destination waypoint so I've not experienced any issues with route planning yet. However I did switch to custom Topo maps loaded on the SD card just fine, contrary to pre purchase research that turned up nothing to indicate it would even be possible to use Topo maps.

Attached pictures show the empty built in map and then switched to Topo map zoomed way out. The surrounding details and trails become increasingly more visible with closer zoom levels.

Quite happy with this discovery!

Sorry ... just dawned on me that my GPS is the 770 so my previous comment isn't even related to the 760! Dang model numbers just blend together after a while ... LoL... However I did read similar trip loading complaints with the new 770 when I was trying to decide what GPS to get.
