The author sure made sure we knew he was the greatest rv'er ever and an authority beyond dared question.
Then he said the dealer is responsible for every buyers financial health and decisions.

I think I read the same story about Conestoga vs prairie schooner vs a trip around the horn back in the 1850's.

Rv's are better now than they ever were.
Cars too.

It really was interesting. A suggested read, just to know how some people, like the author, think.
He's pretty bitter about an awful lot of things.

Interesting read but I take with the proverbial grain of salt...

I also agree with what he has to say. Pretty much spot on. New RV quality is junk.
I buy used, park it in a seasonal site and go there every summer. Might move to a new site this year and park it again. I would NEVER consider the cost of a motor home. Enjoying life on a little income and it ain't 6 figures.

I agree with his comments on financing and purchase decisions. Not so much on RVs being junk. If you pay for it you get a pretty good product. There may still be some bugs to work out when new but I think today’s units are much (MUCH!) better than we had in the 70’s and 80’s. If you choose to buy an entry level machine it may not be great quality but what do you expect when you buy a whole house for the price of a nice pickup truck? And even then if you keep up with maintenance - especially leak prevention - you can enjoy many years of good service. As with most everything it comes down to making informed decisions and not allowing a “victim mentality”. Just my opinion, of course.

It's the same old song and dance applied by a word seller for ten cents a word.

The link is one of the most poignant Saturday Night Live sketches ever.

If any revelation other than:
'damn! I'm glad I'm not like that!'
came from the article or the video... Guess what....

It sounded to me as if he had an axe to grind...
I hope he got it nice and sharp for his next major disappointment in life!

He is right about the RVIA. They just want to have the buyer believe that ab RV manufacturer being part of the RVIA is a statement of quality. The RVIA is nothing but a marketing ploy, thats' it. Yes, the RV industry today puts out a lot of snazzy items into their products (IE. led lights, flat screens, heated floors, etc). But, behind the scenes {IE: the wiring, plumbing, construction is a very different story). One can get the magority of appliances, systems replaced if they are handy with tools and understand the basics of how rv systems work. To this day it amazes me hoe people continue to fall for the gimmicks RV dealers try to get a "sale". Folks spend Big $$$$, and not now the basics of how any thing works. I always try to get buyers to spend some time and attend a basic RV maintenance class. If they spend Big $$$ on their rigs, they should also invest some time and money in themselves on how to check, inspect their rig.
