Need new mattress for 2019 U23

Hi,
The bed in our new Chateau U23 is terrible! My should and hips hit bottom when sleeping on my side.

Question: Has anyone replaced their mattress with something better? It's a "long full" 54x80.

Thanks for any help,
Mac

You should be able to have a local mattress company make something for you at a pretty reasonable cost. I’m sure there are online options as well. Did you try a topper?

A layer of memory foam UNDER the existing mattress.
That's the cure.

If you want to get something that will last 20 years get a sleep number

So be SURE you like it! My wife absolutely hates our sleep number bed. Darned if I know why except that it does slowly leak down and has to be adjusted about every couple of months.

Pete is right...about every costly and/or fadddish mattress.
This is why I suggested cheap, easily removed or added to foam as a first move.

Recommending a mattress is like recommending a scotch or saying to only date redheads.

We have one in our house so I guess that we already knew that we liked them. They do change based on altitude and temperature so we always deflate ours when we leave and then air back up when we get to our campsite. It only takes a couple of minutes and we normally adjust ours often, both my wife and I both have back problems so like to adjust it.

Check out mattress insiders; we purchased one of their pocketed coil spring queens for our 34J and absolutely love it.

The standard beds are insufficient for baby boomers (e.g. born in the 50s).

You may want to investigate replacing the 'box spring' with plywood and then customize the top foam to a density and thickness you desire. I sleep great even with back, shoulder and hips problems.

Go to an Original Mattress Factory store, if there's one near you. They will build you a custom mattress to fit.

Mattress

The stock king mattress in our ACE 27.1 just wasn’t as comfy as we liked it so we ordered a wilderness RV mattress kinda pricey but comfy as hell. One word of caution it’s heavy and once you open the package and it expands I’m not sure if we can ever get it out, but since it’s a odd size ( had to get a 72x75 that’s what the original is) It’ll probably stay.its real similar to our sterns and foster we have at home

mattress

I have a Thor Miramar and experienced the same discomfort with the mattress. I tried adding 4 inch foam but it did not work for me. I ordered a new 8 inch mattress online at Mattress Insider. I was able to order based on my mattress measurements. And it wasn't very expensive. It has been great. Had it about a year now.

Hope this helps

Yep the Denver mattress is as modest (cheap) as they make. We made it a year before it looked like Norman Bates's mom's.

I first contacted Denver Mattress and they sell a heavier foam mattress for around $400, as I recall. Instead, I had a pillow-top interspring one made at a local shop for around$450 and it works well after five years.

replaced mattress

We replaced the mattress in our 2019 Thor Aria. It's a king and although the RV king is a little smaller than a standard king, we went ahead and bought a standard casper mattress. LOVE IT! It's a tight fit and a pain in the butt to change the sheets but so worth it to sleep on a decent mattress!

Our ACE 27.2 has a “hinge” in the bottom 24” of the king mattress to allow bedroom slide to close. Does the 27.1 have that as well?

No our 27.1 has a RV king that is 75 inches long and just touches the dresser when the slide is in

When I needed a mattress for our drop down bunk I just measured the dimensions and made my own mattress here:
https://www.thefoamfactory.com/mattress/mattress.html

I had it setup as a tri-fold for easy removal (the one I made is a mixture of 3 different layers/foam..its the most comfortable mattress in the RV).

We had Texas mattress company make 1 to fit in our 2017 Thor windsport.
It wasn't that expensive, and they make to your standards.

amazon

RV mattresses are made for occasional use. Most RVs are intended for vacationers, so a good bed is not a priority. If you use yours for more than a few weeks, or are a full timer, they are very poor. Not every mattress company has short queen mattresses, which is the norm for most RVs. Amazon has an excellent selection of mattress toppers and new matresses. I just got on for approx $150. They ship it to your door, and you can carry it in before opening the box, so it fits through the doors. The one I bought is a combination of a spring and foam cover. Works a treat.
