New Purchase

Hi, I am about to buy my Motorhome from Motorhome Specialist of Alvarado, TX. I've heard horror stories of dealerships not fixing or treating the customer right. I know this might be a select few, but was wondering if anyone had purchased from the dealership and how was the service department. Thank you.

Bought the Hurricane there 13 months ago. Excellent PDI with two nights in the coach in the delivery area. The tech came by along with the salesman each morning at 9 am to show how everything worked and to fix what we had found. After 8 months two small electrical problems showed-up. I called and made an appointment for 10 am the next day and they fixed the coach in less than one hour.

Great coach and dealership.

We purchased our new Windsport 29M from MSHRV in June 2016, about 6 months later our friend Dino also purchased his 29M from them. I think Dino would agree with me 100% that MSHRV is a Great dealer to do business with!!! Dino drove 5 hours to buy his MH!

About 1 week after purchase our rear AC quit working, called the service department and was told to bring the coach in at MY earliest convenience and a tech would take care of it. Went to the service department about a week later, super nice tech went right to work on the AC. Problem was a faulty freeze sensor, it was working when I took delivery so no fault of dealership.

In my opinion MSHRV had GREAT customer service beginning from the time I first drove to the lot to look!!! I'm very happy I purchased our coach there and wouldn't for a second hesitate to recommend MSHRV!!!

That's wonderful, and I am also purchasing the 29M. Thanks for the information.

On the Thor website click on the owner button at the top of the page, go to bottom of the page and click on Thor forums which is how you got here! Look under modifications and updates, click on Jerry's Hurricane mods. There are about 29 pages of mods and tips for a 29M from Jerry, Dino, myself, and others, lots of great ideas and information.

Think you'll love the 29M, I know all of us do!!!

Jerry lives in California, Dino in Lubbock, and I live in Desoto just north of you. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have!!!

I am glad to hear you are happy with your coach. I have a 31S coming in March 16 and hoping I didn't make a mistake. It was coming in with one A/C and I had them put in a change order for two A/C's since I live in Florida.

Having the second AC added is in my opinion a good move, also gets you the 5500 generator. We love the outside kitchen, don't have the fridge on but do use it to store extra drinks. The Aussie BBQ isn't the greatest but so far it has worked well and easy to clean. Pretty sure you're going to love the 31S!!! Won't be long now!!!

I thought about buying from them several times. I've considered the palazzo and the Tuscany xte but talk myself out of buying a motorhome every time I've looked. The reviews on the palazzos online are horrible. I went and drove one and it seems ok but I can't get past that much money for something I might hate or might spend a ton of time and money in the shop. I have a 44' toyhauler 5er right now that works just fine and doesn't have any issues.

If you're happy with what you have why trade? We had a Tuscany and loved it, had to sell it due to storage problems after we moved. We had a lot of choices when we purchased our new Windsport, we chose Thor because they had a floor plan we really liked and had almost no problems with our Tuscany.

A MH is a very complicated vehicle with a lot of systems built in, are there going to be problems, probably. Buy from a dealer you can trust to take care of the problems and you'll sleep a lot better.

My wife has wanted a motorhome since right after we got our fifth wheel. We just haven't been able to find one we liked in our price range... the palazzo has electric slides which scared me a little. I have all hydraulic slides now and haven't had any issues.

Thor Motor Coach had very few problems with the smaller slides. Major problems with the full wall slides until the 3TRAX Schwintek system came out. The old system uses motors with a 350:1 gear ratio and the newer ones 500:1. I have had zero problems with my slides which have had about 110 cycles in and out. Just follow the instructions: set the parking brake, level the coach and deploy the slides (engine running, generator running or shore power), as you need a full 14 volts for the motors to operate properly. It seems most of the problems are caused by the slide box not being perfectly square or motor failure. Helps if you lubricate the gear reduction system and the coupler monthly

SuperD I thought is was a no brainier too since we live in Florida and like to spend time in Key West. I rather have it and not need than need it and not have it especially with the heat down here. This was a unit they had ordered with one a/c and they put in a change order for the change to two for me. I can't believe all the mods I did to the Vegas and now I have to start over. Seiki tv's will be going back into the Vegas.

Could you tell me how to lubricate the gear reduction system and coupler?
I like to keep my toys well maintained. Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Kev

There is a Schwintek video on you tube that does a good job of describing how to lubricate the slides. Using my iPad and I can't get it to post the link but it's easy to find if you do search. Hope this helps you!

This is the video (or one of):

Lippert Components (the makers of the Schwintek system) has two youtube channels (Lippert University, where the one above is from, and Lippert Components, Inc.). Both channels have some very informative videos in them.

Jamie, Thank You for posting the video! I primarily use my iPad and have not figured out how to post videos or links, bad enough that my pictures are always sideways!

I bought my used Palazzo from MHSRV last month. Everything went well, just like they said over the phone. They picked us up at the airport and gave us a free lunch. They took us straight to our MH. Started the pdi, then went for test drive. Signed papers, continued the pdi and then they lent us a car so we could go to Walmart for supplies. Spent the night in the coach. The next morning they fixed a couple of minor issues and we were on our way back home to California.
