Roof Mount Satellite Dish Install
Anyone have any words of wisdom for the installation of roof mounting a satellite dish on a Miramar? Specifically getting the coax down to the video center located in the slide behind the driver.

Might wanna check if you're prewired into the cabinet above the microwave.

We've also been wondering about how to get cabling down to the rest of the "electrical parts" of the rig...
My best guess so far: Run a small diameter PVC pipe down the side of the rig. (In a place where it's safe and wise to do so... ). Use it as a conduit. Seal the top of it, and once you've got the wires down to the bottom of the rig: you can run them up "underneath her skirts".

I called Thor, got a roof drawing showing backup structure to mount the satellite to. 2017 Miramar's are NOT prewired for satellite dish install.

Once you get the wires down to where you can hook them to something: you're more than halfway home!
Please take lots of pictures of your installation, and share them with us!

Sat. TV signals are line of sight, meaning there has to be a clear and unobstructed path between your dish and the satellite(s). Trees, mountains, etc., will block the signal, as will storm clouds. We had a roof mounted tracking sat. antenna systems on a previous motor home and if we had a nice tree shaded camp site, we didn't have sat. TV. Having had the fixed, roof mounted type, I wouldn't do it again. If you must have sat. TV, IMO you're better off with the movable dish on a tripod.

Thanks Oldchief. I already have a portable King Quest I use for satellite tv. I was gonna sell it, but you make a good point. I should keep it for those times I am parked under a tree.

The last trip we made we were surrounded by trees and if we had a roof mounted dish we would never found a signal. I have the Wineguard Pathway X2 and with some trial and error we had full HD service. The advantage of the X2 is you can receive both east coast and west coast Dish Network satellites. I ran the coax to one of my storage bins so it's simple to just pull the cable out through one of the drain holes and connect to the dish. The other advantage is it cost just under $500.00 for the dish and reciever.

My Challenger has a coax connection in the rear bay with the 50 amp inlet. If I buy a portable satellite dish, could I plug it in there? It seems too simple so I'm asking what may seem an obvious question.

Not as obvious as you think. That coax is for cable hookup if provided by the park. I tried hooking up my portable satellite dish through there and it did not work. Maybe it worked for someone else, but I could not get it to work

The sat reciever and dish need a direct run with no splitters in between. Barrel connectors are OK if you need to extend the coax. That's why I ran mine from the reciever to one of the bays.

We had the roof mounted Traveler Direct satellite installed as part of the deal when we bought the MH. He the tech, ran cable from the dish, through the roof directly into a cabinet above the refrigerator, where the splitters, booster and the direct tv box is located. From there the HDMI cable runs are all internal to each of the three sets.

Got my Traveler installed. The installer called Thor and got their advice on how to run the cables.
It came out great

Its a lot of work, but not rocket science. As long as the installer knows how and is good at fishing wires, and uses lots of sealer on the roof, should work out. Ours is great, we get a lot of use out of that satellite dish.
