No engine protection - is this normal?

First time motorhome owner here and am a month into owning a 2018 Windsport 34p. When I look up above above and behind either of the front tires I can see the engine. Unlike a car, there is no barrier to protect the engine from the elements or a blow out. Is this normal?

Thanks, in advance,

Todd

I'[m sure that you could add something in that spot...
They build these rigs about as cheaply as they can: it's the way of the retail market!

It is common to most freight trucks and front engine RVs to have those engines exposed. If you were to wrap that engine, you would probably make it overheat. Farm tractor engines were never shielded in the old days.

While you are looking around under your coach, check for loose hanging wires. That's more likely to give you problems.

Not sure it matters. Some vehicles have their engines right out there all of the time. Motorcycles, tractors and some airplanes for example. Doesn't seem to hurt them any.

Typically it's just the frame & drive train & basically they set a rv on top, they would have to fabricate inner fenders for who knows how many models & they have a hard enough time just assembling pre made parts correctly.

Thank you for the responses. I'm glad I don't need to add one more thing to be addressed to the list.

Regarding protection from a blowout, most newer cars I've seen have light plastic front wheel wells held on with plastic hardware. I doubt they could stop a large piece of tire traveling at over 100 MPH (and I don't mean driving that fast).

Personally, I'd be more concerned about whether a bad blowout could damage the floor separating the driver's and passenger's feet from the tire. In many Class As the driver and passenger ride just over the tires.

Generally a truck chassis won't have inner fenders for cooling and access for repairs. I little plastic fender liner won't protect your engine compartment from a blow out anyway. Just makes for more pieces to pick up off the highway after the blowout. Cosmetic items at best. Enjoy your new ride!!
